GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
Contested possessions late in the 1st quarter are heavily skewed in favour of GWS
Brisbane mids too worried about putting blocks on instead of hunting the footy
Peatling's going to cost us extras the way he's going

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
What a shiitful effort by Brisbane
Poor kicking from most of their players
Inside 50 count was pretty even half way through the 3rd quarter. Daniher has been his usual inconsistent self.
Lohmann the only forward for Brisbane that can hold his head high

Daniher such a dumbass footballer. Pathetic.

4 goals in a row for Brisbane.
They were 44 points down.
Now only 19 points in it. 5 minutes of play left in the 3rd quarter

Jesse Hogan has been awesome. Payne has been slaughtered
He's kicked 5 goals himself so far... and he set one up for O'Halloran
Brisbane are 25 pts down at 3 quarter time...mids need to get to work if they're going to be any chance.

Darragh Joyce was in the circle singing the song with his team. Would be funny to hear him do it solo Not because I don't think he knows the words... but I love hearing that Irish accent

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
Wow, just wow.
Talk about the most talented list that continues to spectacularly fail.
I wonder if there’s anything to raid here
Tom Green is 23 and a beast. I like him a lot and he is the type of mid to throw big cash at
Peatling is well documented. 2 goals tonight but only 10 touches. At 24, it’s not the best output though he isn’t playing purely as a mid.
Isaac Cummings is 26 and looked like the next big thing 12-18 months ago and has fallen away badly.
All could be worth a look though many are suggesting that we’re saving the war cheat for LDU and Brayshaw next year

Carlton got annoyed with theirs and sacked him, can only imagine GWS will be furious with the inability to run out finals. We nearly got them too early in the season. .

He got a free kick for that disgraceful deliberate against Sam Taylor. That won them the game. Are umpires mind readers because I have no idea how that could deliberate.
Another rule that is screwing the game.

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
I usually don't get involved in the umpire stuff but that decision really should be publicly scrutinised.
It killed GWS and turned the game. To make such a call at that position on the ground and at that time in the game, the umpire MUST be absolutely CERTAIN of the player's intention. However, if there is any SLIGHT doubt, the benefit of the doubt has to be given to the payer.
How could the umpire have been so sure ????? I don't want to get Curly stirred up but this really smells.

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
I though Daniel selfishly taking advantage and kicking the ball off the ground for a point when they had a set shot from 15m was more costly
It wouldve iced the game

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
There's inconsistencies with the rule but in this particular case, there was no GWS player close to the boundary. He definitely got a shove which affected his balance and he went to ground, but it didn't affect his ability to see the footy. He got a hand on the footy and pushed it out.Stian wrote: ↑Sun 15 Sep 2024 8:59pm I usually don't get involved in the umpire stuff but that decision really should be publicly scrutinised.

Leigh Matthews on channel 9 on 'Footy Furnace' said the free was there. Lethal went on to say that most umpires would have paid the free for insufficient intent against Taylor.
If it's good enough for Lethal, it's good enough for me.
The umpires are always going to make mistakes. They're human. It's a part of the game. There were quite a few dubious decisions but in the end, GWS cost themselves. Brisbane deserved the win
Same thing in the Hawks vs Port game. I thought the Port player was lucky to get away with his back hander tap which looked deliberate. There were decisions that Hawthorn got that were lucky and helpful them, but in the end Port deserved the win

Lethal is a board member at Brisbane. What do you expect him to say?

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
Lethal understands footy. He doesn't talk bs like most commentators...and he certainly doesn't let his feelings or emotions get the better of himmagnifisaint wrote: ↑Mon 16 Sep 2024 1:26am Lethal is a board member at Brisbane. What do you expect him to say?
Here's the thing...you've got AFL talent with elite hand eye coordination, and you think a defender 'accidentally' knocked that footy out of bounds. That's fine. That's your opinion.
Do you even even understand what 'insufficient intent' means? Ask yourself - did Taylor try and keep the ball in?
In the post match discussion, one of the commentators on Foxfooty called it a 'harsh' decision and I initially agreed with him, but I watched the replay of the incident from different angles and I changed my mind. Like Lethal said...most umps would have paid it the same way.

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
Taylor just knocked it straight out. That’s a free at any time in any game.
Maybe he should have been more focused on getting a hand on the ball next time it came down.

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
The rule is often analogous to luck with the bounce of the ball. Some umpires interpretations are lenient unless blind freddy can see what the play's intent was. Others second guess with a guilty until proven innocent approach. I'd suggest each time such a free is paid the umpire has to explain the reasonable alternatives a player in motion had.
Moot of course because the result of the game was already ordained by the fates once Daniels butchered that goal opportunity. Gods don't like selfish wastrels, I understand that from watching Kaos.

Re: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final
A couple of things on that decision.
The comment that it should not be paid at that stage of the game is garbage.
The decision should be exactly the same in the first minute as the last in a game.
The other issue is the rule is that you can get pinged for not trying to keep the ball in play and not that you deliberately tried to put it out.
Therefore, the players motivation is not relevant just the on display actions.
I personally don't agree with the rule but according to the way the rule is applied the decision was 100% correct.

Might be a good idea to learn the rules before going off about them...
