How'd the midfield go?
Thought you needed an elite mid field to win finals.
How'd that work for Port?
Defense wins finals we are on the right path.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
The other boy from Cairns Saints unfortunately was a selection mistake by Kenny, his time is up unfortunately, they were playing so well during the H&A without him. I will be gob smacked if he is picked next week but won't be surprised either.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Unfortunately for you Curly it was Geelongs midfield dominance that smashed Port last night, they simply couldnt get their hands on the ball. Then the entire Geelong side played quick sling shot footy that exposed Ports ability to hold onto the ball.
Ports only trump card their mids werent allowed to get going they were smashed.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Whilst Geelong have had midfield issues this year, a fit and firing Dangerfield makes a big difference. We haven't yet got a Dangerfield.
Finals also expose weaknesses. Port have a scarily good midfield, but they're not great forward of the ball and defensively suspect. That was badly exposed.

For those who tried to justify our most recent loss to Port because they’re apparently a bloody good side - LOL

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Total clearances were pretty even last night - 40/36 Geelong's way but at stoppages the Cats had 9 more than Port.
Other interesting stats from the match were Port's 53 inside 50 to Geelong's 57, which translated to 20 shots (37.7%) and 39 (68.4%) respectively. But it was Geelong's uncontested possessions of 229 to 154 that counted most in the result, as we used to say in the old days, they had "loose men everywhere"!
Bloody impressive performance by the underdog, especially when you consider Geelong had 4 players with less than 20 games playing last night!
Chris Scott is easily the best coach of the past decade, there's every chance he will guide his team to two GFs in three years.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Yep, definitely on the right path defensively, with our key defenders for round 1 next season being Wilkie (elite, 29yo) Howard (average, 29yo) and Cordy (average, 28yo)

A comment from a novice clearly.
Anyone with any idea understands the key to a good defense is structure.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Hinkley was too worried about tactics and strategies instead of having his players out there winning the footy. You focus on your strengths and you play to win more than playing to restrict
He started Horne-Francis on the bench at the start of the game and again, went with that tactic at the start of the second quarter. Horne-Francis is one of their biggest and strongest midfielders.
Why wouldn't you have him out there competing? Commentators suggested it was to try and 'unsettle' Geelong's plan of possibly tagging him
And...
If you're going to play 2 lumbering dinosaurs in the ruck, why not have your best mid in there? I dunno. It was a big gamble having two slow ruckmen and it cost them the lead and the game
Hinkley tried to bamboozle Geelong but in the end he bamboozled his own players

Knownothing, other than Danger their midfield is rather weak.
They have elite half backs and forwards.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
How would Geelong's mids have felt knowing that Horne-Francis is not in the middle to start the game? It gave Geelong confidence.
Horne-Francis is also one of Port's best users. Dumb move
Butters had an excuse. He was injured. What was Rozee's excuse? 16 possessions as a midfielder and the most important person (the captain) who needed to lead the way

Re: How'd the midfield go?
I thought Cats were going to get pumped last night
I think this one’s going to be close until the final siren. I tipped the Dogs but not confident

Re: How'd the midfield go?
I've got question marks over the Hawks being finals ready, just missing some key talls and hard bodies.
Not sure they can stand up to the pressure of finals whereas the Dogs are ready for finals.

Hawks would do well with Membrey imo.
They should offer him a 2 year deal.

Re: How'd the midfield go?
Well, anyway you call it, Port have had our measure since 2012. They've won 14 out of 15 and beat us everywhere. And it is their midfield which does the damage.
Having said that 6 out of the fourteen losses have been by less than a goal, but it is pointing out the bleeding obvious to state that we always get their season rolling every season.
I believe our club has kept Kenny in his job. He should send St. Kilda a Christmas ham every year.
