Lance Collard
Have watched him a lot, something is not quite right there!
Big jump from WAFL Colts to VFL Seniors so his footy is not really an issue. His numbers, are about as expected for a small forward 1.5 goals - not bad, 7poss low 1.6 tackles low 39 ranking points - low
But it’s his body language that is very concerning. He looks as though he doesn’t want to be there and is not at all invested!
I know everyone has a different personality but it really looks as if he’d rather be anywhere else when he’s playing and even when he shows flashes of brilliance (which he has) not a smile. Doesn’t congratulate others and the only emotion you see from him is frustration
I was rapt when we got him! He has very high skill level. But not looking good!
2 possessions on a beautiful day on a big ground on the weekend. If your attitude is no good, no matter what, you will not perform
Hopefully I’m off the mark!

Re: Lance Collard
Agree with these comments entirely, looks a lot like home sickness to me, he must have shown something early on as he managed a few games, was even driving Ross' car if I remember clearly

Re: Lance Collard
I had strong intel he wanted to get out of WA.
North were very keen on him after they spoke to him and were going to pick him up before we pounced.
Of course, this doesn’t mean he’s not homesick and or happy at the St.Kilda F.C.

Re: Lance Collard
Reportedly about to re-sign for another 2 years
Can’t be too unhappy or homesick
If he’s not either, he has the most bizarre body language I’ve seen
Looks absolutely disinterested
He could be the next Charlie Cameron or Ross Tungatalum

Re: Lance Collard
Interesting to see this thread on the forum given that I was speaking to someone VERY close to the club earlier this week who said that the players don't really like him because he has an attitude problem (stuck up).
Hope it's not true...

Is he shy and reserved?

Mainly I was underconfident and didn't say or engage much when I was young.

Re: Lance Collard
EXCITING SAINT SET FOR DEAL
ST KILDA youngster Lance Collard is closing in on a contract extension at the club.
The exciting young Saint, who joined at last year's draft via pick No.28, started his career with a standard two-year deal through to the end of 2025.
But talks are well underway for a two-year extension which would see him signed through to the end of 2027.
The West Australian made his AFL debut for the Saints in round one as the substitute against Geelong before playing two more senior games in round 10 and 11.
Collard, 19, was eyed by the Saints last year for his speed and spark in the forward line and has booted 15 goals in 10 games in the VFL.

Re: Lance Collard
Well that seems a tad disingenuous.
Only player that seemed perpetually happy I recall is Brad Johnson, and at times his smiles seemed demented.
Even Jack Higgins seems a serious soul these days.
For all these men and boys the stakes are high, the pressures stressful and the regime tough.
However body language interpretation is of course a well recognised science even though it requires no formal training (isn't it?).
There once was a saying: never judge a book by its cover, whatever that meant.
FWLIW, I feel for these youngsters trying to make their way, they get terrific support from their club but at the same time the scrutiny and expectations can be debilitating I imagine.

Re: Lance Collard
Part of being a pro athlete
He’s getting paid more than most, as a 19yo to play a sport that he’s very good athlete
Imagine the pressure Harley Reid is under. Number 1 pick, interstate, playing in the biggest club in WA with over a hundred headlines
But he’s got the character and ability to deal with it
Lance has don ok for a first year player, his body language is dreadful though.

Re: Lance Collard
Lance will have plenty of time to fulfill his potential at the Saints, especially when his contract extension is finalised.

Re: Lance Collard
I have a teenage son
I would not be happy if he displayed that body language playing cricket
Although you’re right, he could just be one of those closed off kids who show little emotion- Bjon Borg was similar
Some kids I suppose can be stand offish or introverted
I watched him kick 3 terrific goals in a quarter - not even a smile or grin even though his team mates were rubbing his head!!

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: Lance Collard
Looks like he has a lot of growing up to do. Based on a few observations on here maybe it wasn't a smart thing to do recruit him. This sort of thing is borne out of frustration.

Yeah sounds like its far from smooth sailing down at the club so far for Lance.
