Play the kids etc.

Nice stat for those who think we haven't been doing enough to develop our draftees.

The most matches played from draftees in the past three years has West Coast on top with 199 games, from St Kilda (186), Hawthorn (177), North Melbourne (168) and Adelaide (122).

It should be 286 games and a Premiership.

Not good enough!!

Ya, haven't really understood people baying for more kids to play. Feels like we're playing as many young kids as possible without turning into North. Everyone is getting chances and I'm sure by the end of the season, the ones who haven't yet (Arie and a few others) will get them as well.

I’m the other way

I think we’ve gifted games, which I’m not a fan of

Nothing wrong with learning in the VFL - especially with more significant roles

I agree- we can't just gift games to those who are not really busting their guts at VFL level. I was a bit crook on Collard getting a senior game after basically standing around at Wonthaggi against the BH Hawks, nor should have Pou got a senior game. I reeks of Lyon being desperate

Where are you getting these figures please?

If we assume Windy, Nas and Mich played 20 each in 2022 (I’m being generous but let’s say 3 x20 =60) and we’ve got Pou who played 24 in 2023, that leaves another 100+ for this year. The only draftee to have played all games this year is Wilson on 10 games. Doesn’t add up

Code Sport had it in their recent article.

I assume it includes all games since players were drafted from the 2022 season, so Nas would count for just over 50, etc

Still not sure where Code Sport got their numbers.

Nas 51 games
Windy 46 games
Owens 40 games
Pou 33 games
Caminiti 24 games
Wilson 10 games
Garcia 5 games
Hastie 5 games
Collard 2 games

216 total

Even if you excluded this year's games it wouldn't match

Take out Caminiti and also the game the players played against Freo and you get 186

Note - Hammer wasn't taken in the National Draft ... it seems that's what they are looking at

Hammer - 24
Nas / Windy/ Owens / Pou / Wilson / Collard - 1 each

That's 30 ... 216 - 30 is 186

Hastie & Garcia didn't play v Freo

I should be on Countdown .... UK game version

Not play the kids

Develop the kids

Stop gifting games. They need to be developed. There is a big difference. Make them earn it. Give them challenges and rewards.
Give them time to grow without overwhelming them.

Pou is a great example. He has forgotten what the ball looks like. He needs time and space to find his passion, develop his skills. The best way to correct his course will be to reset Give him some easy games.
Otherwise he will be lost. A wasted talent.
Billing 2.0

There is others in the same position. It is why teams seem to be developing for years, generation after generation get burnt out or don't meet their potential.

ALL Clubs draft players who either get little exposure or no exposure at AFL level - returning to where they were recruited from, elsewhere or just losing interest in the game

It is not only St Kilda

And some of those who do not make the grade for whatever reason are First Round Draft picks
