Membrey should have been subbed off, Not Hayes!
I like Membrey don't get me wrong, but his form has been ordinary for weeks now and should have been subbed off not Hayes.
What would have happened if Marshall went down, I dont understand there logic! Hayes has good forward craft as well.
Also one more point, when Marshall grabs the ball from the Ruck his kicks are usually Hack kicks and end up being shallow fwd 50 entries which are easy to defend, it happens week after week.... Sometimes it wouldnt hurt Marshall to handpass to running outside Mids.

The only thing missing is the outside running mids. Then again- we’re a highly disorganised rabble so, it wouldn’t matter anyway

Maybe Winx could have had a little spell.

said in the lead up to this game not to expect too much from Hayes in his second game back from a long lay off, sports scientists would have planned to manage his time in his second game and subsequent games after that. He needs to build a block of games to get the conditioning back.

Correct
Membrey or Garcia
I called for a sub in the first quarter when it was apparent that we had mismatches in our d50 and needed Paton on

Or maybe our forwards or players forward of the Marshall ruck contest anticipate what he might do and actually play in front

We didn’t have the strength in close quarters
Our tackling was mostly insipid , they moved the ball forward easily in tight situations
Our bodies need more weights

Desire and wanting/hunting the ball ... supercedes weight
The way Moore / Day / Newcombe attacked the ball and gave maximum 2nd and 3rd efforts ..... that's what you want ..... and it's what we don't have

Based on current form i'd suggest they change his nickname to Stinx.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Membrey should have been subbed off, Not Hayes!
We did - which is why Battle had to be used forward
You need 7
We had 8 (counting the sub) and not counting Sincs
Which is why we were unbalanced
What Hawthorn did exploit was our 3 taller defenders which are slow- ensuring 1 had to play on a small
Moore, Ginnivan and Watson had a mismatch
What was strange- Webster at times had Gunston while Wilkie was on Watson and Battle on Ginnivan

RL
Was no genius moving Battle
He erred in his pre match strategy and got his match ups wrong and was too slow reacting to it

So you sub off one of two forwards to correct the imbalance? Bizarre.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 11 May 2024 6:34pm We did - which is why Battle had to be used forward

Re: Membrey should have been subbed off, Not Hayes!
I'd add King into the debate about who should have been subbed off.
Ross needs to make a statement soon.
Not only meeting expectations for a 4DP
But just not working hard enough without ball in hand
Which is a bloody lot

We subbed off a tall forward and sent battle (a tall back) forward and not sure where we used Paton? Guessing it was HB.

Interesting Vortex that King should be added, why not Webster? Apparently he was going to be making everyone in the opposition's F50 look over their shoulder after his courageous practice match act.
We need quality mids with pace and good disposal. Plugger would struggle with how we kick the ball inside F50.

Plugger would’ve taken that mark in the last 20 secs
And kicked truly

But King fumbled it as he fumbled and double grabbed at a few other non marks today

You are correct there B.M., but you are missing the point as easily as we kick them.

King refuses to do the team thing without ball in hand.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 11 May 2024 6:47pm Interesting Vortex that King should be added, why not Webster? Apparently he was going to be making everyone in the opposition's F50 look over their shoulder after his courageous practice match act.

There was a play where his defender broke away and he gave up before he was less than 2m away and drove the ball into attack for the Hawks. This from a player given the number 12 guernsey and nicknamed Winx. Every game he puts in like today I get more embarrassed about the number he wears and his nickname.
Like I say, he's not doing the team thing without ball in hand that is not acceptable and I'll be surprised if Ross tolerates it for much longer as the footy world is starting to notice.
I don't disagree the delivery into the forward line is poor but like I say, this is about what King is doing without ball in hand.

Re: Membrey should have been subbed off, Not Hayes!
Hayes was awful
Membrey contributed a lot more than Jack Hayes
It's not Membrey's fault we lost the match and I doubt very much whether it would have made much difference whoever was subbed off.
Hill had 1 disposal in the last quarter. 1 touch only for Liam Henry in the 3rd quarter and 1 touch only for the last
Are Hill and Henry below AFL quality? If course they aren't...then perhaps....just perhaps...we got out coached
