Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
He trained today, took part in match sim, i didn't see him go off injured but that doesn't mean much.
I did see Dow leave the ground with the Doc and a Physio, maybe precautionary ?
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Fair selection. Jones was ordinary for an experienced player. A poor standard for the young players. He's better than last Sunday.

Geez...
I would've dropped Butler before Jones.
Only 2 games, small sample size, but
Avg disp 8.5
Turnovers 3.0
His cheeky goal was a silly party trick that worked, but no other team will let him do that again

I'm not surprised Hastie is out, at training today when they ran 2 separate match sims, Hastie was with the Sandy Saints players, Hayes looked good playing as the forward in that match sim, took a good contested mark as well.
Hope he plays well for Sandy on Saturday.

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
Jones had one of the worst body language first quarters I've seen against the Tigers. Looked completely disinterested, didn't want to tackle, didn't want to go get the ball. If this is a pull your head in or get out type omitted I'm all for it. Too long we've carried passengers on the team, and dropping more experienced guys should send a message.
If it's injury or something in his personal life then of course I hope he can get it together and come back at his best.
Look forward to seeing Garcia - hopefully not another one we give the debut sub to.

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
Is that the last game Zac played? Was very ordinary to the point of disinterested, had very low game time and subbed out which is telling considering we needed energy and attack around the ball.

Yes
Why did they bother with hastie , played him about a quarter over 2 games .
Must be so exciting for the families of these lads to watch them sitting on the pine for most of the game

Desperately need Hayes to get in and see what he can bring.bobmurray wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:32pm I'm not surprised Hastie is out, at training today when they ran 2 separate match sims, Hastie was with the Sandy Saints players, Hayes looked good playing as the forward in that match sim, took a good contested mark as well.

Our structure is screaming out for a big bodied mobile type who's grest overhead, is a great set shot and can ruck.
Hayes is all of that but is his body durable enough for the elite level. Its a massive bonus for us over the next 3 or more years if it is until we can recruit the same prototype.

There should be no sub, it’s unnecessary

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
I tell you straight
Ross doesn’t either rate or like Jones - it’s obvious
I also think it’s fkn disgusting to debut players as Subs
Probably the biggest moment in their lives, they get at best a quarter. I can tell you, your first senior game, the first half an hour is a blur, you legs go heavy and your out of breath the whole time - it’s pretty normal to take a quarter to adjust.
Even worse sitting on the bench for three quarters waiting. It’s like waiting to bat, you’d rather just go straight out there.
So far Collard 0 possessions Hastie 4 possessions in his debut as Sub and 0 possessions the next week as Sub
Funnily enough Zac Jones was Sub in r2 had 15 possessions after coming on at quarter time

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
It's not really fair on young players if they continually get made sub. They're virtually on stand by and sacrifice their individual needs for the needs of the team.
We made Jack Bytel the sub 4 times early last year. It messes with these guys form.
Jack Steele was out with a broken collarbone and instead of Bytel getting a look in, we preferred an out of form Brad Crouch. I hate short term thinking like this. Look where Crouch is now.
They earn the right to play but they don't get enough minutes...and some of these guys lose their momentum when they go back to the magoos
Bytel never got a chance to show what he was capable of. He's in good form in the VFL for Collingwood at the moment. Will be good for him if he earns a spot in the seniors at some stage

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
I fear for Zack's long term future, if he gets dropped after a reasonable game last week. It was far from his best, but by no means worst, game.
When you factor in our injury list, his omission, at least for this week, is a bit bewildering......unless you refer back to comments posted on BF and maybe on here as well, that RTB didn't rate him and openly expressed that during a training session.
Maybe one of the regular track watchers can assist with this. Has Zack already been consigned to the, "In case of emergency break glass" category.

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
You really don't let go, do you, despite overwhelming evidence. Another anti Crouch pro Bytel post. Get over it, Bytel plays for Collingwood now, well actually, Collingwood VFL. Take down your Bytel poster. Crouch is a level above Bytel. Nothing against Bytel though, I hope he does get a go for Collingwood, but not holding my breath.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 12 Apr 2024 12:22am It's not really fair on young players if they continually get made sub. So according to you Saints should have preferred Bytel over Crouch, early last year, especially because Steele was out with a broken collarbone. Crouch was out of form? What? Crouch got brownlow votes in the first 2 games, and when Steele was out (R3-5), Crouch picked up brownlow votes in 2 of those 3 games. Did you see those games?
While on the subject of wall posters, have you taken down your Ben Long poster yet? He's now Gold Coast, actually Gold Coast VFL.
Get with it Scollop.

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones
I agree that it's a pretty flat way to make your AFL debut, but on the other hand, it's great way to introduce young players to the AFL game day experience without exposing them to a full game. You could argue that means they're not ready, and in some cases, they're not. But once they've had a taste, the desire to get back into the team is there. They're not running around at Sandy like a junior thinking their chance won't come, they now know they're good enough.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 10:11pm

I'd also rather debut as the sub, than be subbed off on debut.
