How about this West Indies team!
Gotta say..
What a surprise both Pakistan and the Windies are?
These tests are good.
I suppose the moment they get famous, they’ll be lost to T20, but still!
it.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Test cricket is the real deal
T20s are boring and irrelevant.
Would you see a 7 for in that garbage
Only people who like t20s are non cricket fans who don’t appreciate the game!

Re: How about this West Indies team!
But these young stars are showcasing themselves and building a legacy that will feed t20 so tests have a role too.
Awesome stuff
They bowled well
Captained well
Fielded well
Never hung their heads or gave up
When everyone had written them off
- and Pakistan were a surprise too

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Really, Bankrupt?!
150 000 people attended the Boxing Day Test match at $100 a ticket
Two fifths of FA people go to Renegades games - except a heap of kids who get in for free!

Re: How about this West Indies team!
An excellent performance by the West Indies, playing with wonderful spirit and focus, not distracted by extraneous issues nor burdened by arrogance.
Hopefully next time they will be given a third test .
A fascinating five test series is just beginning with India hosting England.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
That's cheap compared to a 100 minute football game that would average 40k + per game.
30k a day at the MCG would barely pay the costs.
The MCG would be broke if it wasn't for its non intended purposes.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Ashes Test or India series
80K on Boxing Day at $100 per ticket
Then a further 100K on the other days
That’s 18 Million at the gate
Melbourne Stars
10-15 000 attendance at $25 per ticket (not counting u16 get in for free
That’s 325 000
Which form of the game is propping up which?
All Tests in England
Sold Out two years in advance- you need to go into a Ballot to get tickets
250-300 pounds ((up to 500 at Lords)
Then there’s the 100
Which gets maybe a couple of thousand to a game at 20 quid a ticket

The only successful- although not that profitable- some franchises are haemorrhaging money
Is the IPL
And that’s because they’d pay money to watch any form of cricket - they are fanatical

Re: How about this West Indies team!
As usual I'm happy to set you straight.
The ICC hosts test cricket, not the MCG or CA. They make the cash.
In terms of revenue, 62% comes from media rights and gate taking percentages represent a small fraction for the host clubs who own the grounds and service massive debts..
The MCC is in over $200m debt and only float because of AFL and BBL hosting contracts income. They are ther to serve there illustrious members who wait years on a ballot to get in the door. Most are nominated as new born babies. It's elitist bulls*** at its best, living off the fat of the lambs who pay $100 to sit in the sun or 50 metres further a way than the TV view point. Only fool's and diehards go to the cricket.
Australia's attendances at cricket are dominated by migrants and the TV rights are hugely dependent on overseas viewers be ause of Australia's former White Australia policy and our ridiculously low population. It's about spinning revenue, not profit.
AFL average game takings dwarf test match takings and the 40 BBL games averaging 21,000 attendance are much more lucrative than tests. As they only take a few hours and there is 4 times as many of them.
You really need to think deeper and not depend on romance and nostalgia so much.
Or maybe just read more and think less.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
That’s absolute garbage
The BBL is a white elephant
Test cricket in the big 3 countries is the absolute pinnacle
Which is why 80 000 people attend
And pay more.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Take the Indians out of that crowd and you will find your White Elephant.
They like Australia, it's like there second team to support.
They like our country too, our houses, our takeaway stores, most of the motels in our CBD's, petrol stations, convenience stores they manage our hospitals and their doctors love it too. I guess they are model citizens. They pay more for all of those things too.
I'd be getting used to the BBL if I was you. India vs Australia will end up bigger than the Ashes, if it hasn't already.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
English Crickets grounds also serve their members, thats why you have to wait for a ticket ballot to get one of the precious Test seats. The biggest oval has a capacity of 31,000 people. Wow. No wonder it's sold out. You would be an expert on absolute garbage but yoir living a fantasy world.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Take Indians out of the crowd?
That’s like saying take Collingwood supporters out of the crowd
Those ‘Indians’ are mostly Australian residents
Migrants are Aussies… are you racist?
Questions
Would you rather watch a proper international team with the likes of Smith, Cummins or Head
Or a BBL game with the likes of Wakim, Hatzoglou, Silk or Dwarshius?
Would you rather someone compile a meaningful hundred or watch someone belt a couple of sixes?
You will never convince a real cricket fan that BBL is better than test cricket nor is it more entertaining
That what a 10 year old or a fair weather fan might think

You're changing your argument. Nothing to do with racism. Test cricket is an expensive bore.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Of course they are supporting India - either their culture, background or birthplace is Indian
But they mostly live in Aus and are residents
You can’t argue the fact
80 000 people watch the Boxing Day test at 100 per ticket
15 000 at max turn out for a Stars or Renegades game at 25 per ticket and kids for free!
It’s call relevance- no one who actually is a proper cricket fan gives a fk about the BBL
I couldn’t tell you who even wins it
But I can tell you who has won the Ashes every single series

Re: How about this West Indies team!
If you weren't so delusional and pompous, this would be funny. But its just sad. You're just pulling figures out of your behind.
A reserved seat ticket to the boxing day Test is $82, General admission is $70
Children are a fraction of the cost at $33.50 and $25.
At a ratio of 3 adult to 1 child your figures are just outrageous.
The average attendances for the last 5 years has been 67,618. That doesn't doesn't include 2020 when we were embarrassed by India but does include 2018 when we were embarrassed by India.
You're just making stuff up BM. Your not an authority on cricket, you are just a very naughty boy.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Comparatively, AFL Grand Final tickets start at $185 and go up to $484, not including corporate prices. 50% of the tickets never go up for sale.
Brisbane and Collingwood attracted 104000 people. Now go to bed.

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Mate, stick to your hit and giggle t20 stuff
There are obviously different priced tickets - I just went with an approximate price
Level 2
Prices: Day 1 - $165 per person (incl. GST) - SOLD OUT · Day 2 - $165 per person (incl. GST) - SOLD OUT · Day 3 - $165 per person
Depends on where you want to sit
Google searches aren’t that hard to do, I see you’ve been doing a few.
BTW
Ashes tests have averaged closer to 90 000
NZ around 80 000
India 70 000
South Africa 60 000
Pakistan 60 000
West Indies 55 000
Of course it depends a bit on who you play

Re: How about this West Indies team!
Even at a 5:1 ratio-
5x82+35 = 445
445 ÷ 6 = $74.17 average ticket price
$74.20 X 67618 = a fraction over $5m of course that figure is completely false but it's nowhere near the $18m interest you believe.
Sponsorship and MCC membership account for the majority of the tickets.
The largest ever MCG attendance is 93013 for a world cup final and 91112 for a test.
Not a massive difference but it proves a point.
The World Cup 50 over format is by far the pinnacle of Cricket. Tests are just a silly tradition.
The MCG was expanded for the Olympics and then for the AFL again.
Before 1950, the boxing day test was played in England.
The Grand final has been played there since 1902.
Can't wait for your next reply
