All that aside, that is great if he does. Looks like he'll be a very valuable player for us.Resign, used as a transitive verb, means to give up or relinquish something. Resign, used as an intransitive verb means to leave a position or job. In chess, when one resigns, one ends the game by conceding defeat. To be resigned means to accept the inevitable. Related words are resigns, resigned, resigning, resigner and resignation. Resign appears in the English language in the late fourteenth century with the meaning give up, surrender, abandon, submit, relinquish, coming from the Latin resignare, which means to check off, annul, cancel, give back, give up.
Re-sign is transitive verb which means to sign again. Re-sign may mean the physical signing of a document or the re-engagement of someone under contract with the expectation that another contract will be physically signed. Re-sign first appears in 1805.

No need to rush, new rules in place to protect us from losing him until we know he’s worthy of a long and large dollar value contract.

I’d sign him up tomorrow if he was willing!
I have little doubt he is going to make it

He won't be signing early, not unless the club jumps the gun.
This kid came to play, he don't care about the contract, he has more important things to focus on.

Re: Phillipou
Vortex's characterisation of the players as "them", using young Matteus as the subject, seems to me a new low even for that bottom feeder. I think the post should be removed in the interests of basic respect for our players, our club as a whole and the purpose of this forum. I repudiate its inferences completely.

If he makes our premiership his priority and gets us one, his contract is worth more than Roos, and he already knows that.

Re: Phillipou
Have to adopt the culture of the successful clubs and not prostitute ourselves by throwing ourselves at every young boy who walks in the joint promising to make our eyes role to the back of our heads.
Plus and as I say the AFL has introduced new rules that prevent clubs from themselves especially the financially challenged that mismanage their TPPs by throwing god father contracts at 18 year olds.
The industry has been advocating for this for sometime now.
The exception being Collingwood and Nick Daicos, but two things at play there, one Collingwood is not bound by the clubs who were forced to sign the “assisted” agreement under duress during the Pandemic, and it’s Nick Daicos who is a proven star in his first season…the Pou not so much.

Re: Phillipou
We just need 35 professional footballers, actually I think that's 35 pros and 17 in development.
Ross might have decided the long road is the better one.
Ours has been a long road.
It's about to break.
When the Tassie team joins us, our debt to baldock will be repaid.
Then we can move on to Glory.

Re: Phillipou
Plugger owned Moorabbin.
We bought and sold him.
Nicky Winmar conquered Victoria Park and fell into the history books.
Phillipou has come to take the MCG.
We know what Baldock did.

Re: Phillipou
Didn’t the new rules only come into being to cover the ones drafted from this years draft (& future years)?
I didn’t think it was retrospective to cover the Pou’s draft year? I could be wrong though?

I like talking to people, who think about the words and not just the emotions we speak with.
It's the beauty hidden, in the written word.

Re: Phillipou
I could be wrong on that point myself Loris however my understanding was it is for all new contracts negotiated and signed after the rules came into effect.
As a side note I think the rules were needed, it was getting out of control the money and length of contracts being offered to kids that were unproven.
Whilst I'm excited about what the Pou could become, I didn't see anything in his first year that made me think he's an automatic generational player worthy of a godfather offer.
Let's atleast see how he's travelling in his third year to determine his godfather worthiness. If he's an honest individual he'll agree he should earn any possible godfather paypacket.

Re: Phillipou
Who mentioned a ‘godfather’ offer???
I’d give him this year - and another 3
He’s fringe atm
Will be a very good player - that I’m certain of!
And I was a massive critic of him being gifted games last year
And he had a s*** final - but it’s obvious the boy can play
