As a long time SME, it goes without saying. One day I might even give you some tips on how to turn a truck stop into the next Hilton Hotels empire.

The annual report is actually on the club website if anyone is interested.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Thanks for that.
I've downloaded it but i might save reading it until my next bout of insomnia.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I found it interesting that we only have 116 employees.
Assuming that's including the players.

It's one brand, one business and its all owned and controlled by the Vatican, aka the AFL.

Just a little bump that this is tonight.
Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to make it but if anyone is able to go and post a report, no doubt you’ll have the forum’s eternal gratitude

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
Isn’t it just a piece of AFL spin?
I guess I am so damaged I question the paper it is written on.
And it’s not written on paper.
The only bit that made sense to me was:
our website host and some third party service providers may collect information for statistical, reporting and maintenance
Sorry I shouldn’t comment.
Can anyone provide a brief synopsis of it?

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
Take away the generous donation to keep GT quiet and our dept is still stubbornly stuck well in excess of 10 million.
Should be hard for anyone at the executive level to pat themselves on the back for their business and financial management but it won’t surprise me if they give it to.
Been saying it for a while and I’ll say it again, how can we complete in the arms race with the rich clubs if we don’t find a solution to creating a revenue source well beyond the fookery that is the government funded membership kick back system.

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
Can you please put that into context with this statement.
St Kilda has received $156 million dollars in AFL funding in the ten years between 2012-2021!
Collingwood ?? ZERO!
So we receive approximately twice as much as our annual debt in gifts from the AFL!!!
(I realise it’s not an ‘annual debt’ as such, but as much as we are in debt)
No wonder we have to play twilight Sunday, China, Cairns, New Zealand. No wonder Paddy Ryder gets suspended, and bummed out and retires!!

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
I remember reading some absurd stat a while ago that went something like…
If all the results with crowds are/were exactly the same from when the Saints moved to Marvel until the old stadium deal ended, with the deal that we have now (whenever that finished)…
Instead of being $12mill in debt, we’d have been $1mill in profit.
Unfortunately since the old deal ended, we’ve been a shambles on the field for the majority.
My impression is that if we can get it right and actually produce some decent results over a 5 or so year stretch… heaven forbid a bit longer or winning a flag… it feels like that’s what’s missing now to get us firmly in black

To be competitive on the field you need the budget to compete in the arms race that is the soft cap and also the secret cap.

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
Respectfully, are you lot pretending we didn’t just receive 156millon bucks from 2012-21??
You are talking as if it doesn’t happen.
Like St Kilda is in a vacuum?
So what about a ten million debt?
What does it mean?
Soft cap?
Fiscal discipline?
I agree St Kilda needs money but increasingly we are a branch of the franchise
We serve it
It doesn’t serve us, as the AFL was envisioned
But that’s ok
Cos we are still alive
But eventually St Kilda will need to be St Kilda IMO
There might be a chance themn

And Bassett caved into fan pressure and gave away the money earnt from playing games outside of Melbourne. Hopefully he's got a plan? He didn't seem to have a clue about what was happening at the club in his first 4 years in the job.

Pretty accurate way of describing it. Although GWS and GCS are more like Hillsong-style super parishesVortex wrote: ↑Fri 01 Dec 2023 8:59pmYup.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Fri 01 Dec 2023 7:08pmAren't they contracted to the AFL?mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Fri 01 Dec 2023 6:09pm I found it interesting that we only have 116 employees.

What do you mean by "gave the money away from playing games outside of Melbourne"?

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
The review Basset held with his "external" committee which was mostly held with internal staff concluded selling home games was part of the problem at the club when Ratts was sacked. It was sycophant pandering at best.
The money from selling home games is desperately needed and provides our poor and financially struggling club with much needed resources for the football department.
It makes it hard to be a sustainable top 4 side if you are in significant perpetual debt.
