Lance Collard
Nice looking small forward...sure we've got a few but you never know...
His 11 games At Subby this year yielded 32 goals...last 2 games 5 goals back to back...handy.
Welcome to St Kilda!
Some highlights...

Re: Lance Collard
Milney mk 2?
Youtube comments on one of his highlight reels suggest possible attitude issues and go home factor to WA being a problem but fingers crossed for us as he looks like a gun goalkicker

Looks very good, must be a flight risk, but worth a stab at pick 28 ....

Re: Lance Collard
We've got him for 3 years so time will tell if he wants to go back home to his family during his initial time with the Saints.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

You would have thought they would have offered something worthwhile if they wanted him now.

Re: Lance Collard
Yeah, this lad looks like a fantastic prospect. Let’s hope he doesn’t get homesick, like Jamie Cripps did

Let's hope not Jamie Cripps Mark 2- at least as far as another small forward wanting to return to WA

Re: Lance Collard
Geeeez you love to watch him have shots at goal.
He lofts in seemingly without a care in the world and casually slots them as though it’s so easy for him it’s a bit boring.
Am not sure I’ve ever seen anyone so self assured

Re: Lance Collard
Pretty timid in his interviews, so will definitely get the homesickness.
Move him in with NWM and Woody

Re: Lance Collard
We lost Billings, Peris and Gresham so our small forward stocks were a bit lean…hopefully Collard and/ or Hotton make the grade!

Re: Lance Collard
We thought the same with Nas…Collard’s got 5 other indigenous boys plus Katrina Amon at the club!

Re: Lance Collard
Watched him kill games in 5 minute bursts throughout the juniors . Sits on heads (including my sons) , great lead , super fast and holds his feet and big on the chirp. Could move up the ground a bit too. Boom or bust

Re: Lance Collard
Love the positivity here, some already having jumping on a plane and heading home before he leaves the state based on the fact he is from WA, and a bit shy on TV.
This kid was rated on draft boards a lot higher than this so a great pick and if the club have the right structures and cultures within the group why would he leave.
Probably the same people who said we should have picked Sims over NWM because he was from Sandy v SA.
Put the right things in place and people will stay - Josh Kelly is a prime example and no one wants to live in Western Sydney.

Re: Lance Collard
Hope you're right Saintmike65.
I have no issues with what I saw from his highlights. I was as impressed with his highlights as I was with Wanganeen-Milera's highlights in his draft year..
Collard is super quick and has that jack-in-the-box agility. His goal sense looks really good, too. Looks to me that he's one of those players who won't be just a small forward. He could play wing, too.
He has a good collection of indigenous players at the club that will make him feel more comfortable than he would have otherwise been if we didn't have those guys, so that's a positive for sure.
There's been a shift from our cautious recruiting from the ill-fated Elshaug era. Elshaug would never have selected the likes of Wanganeen-Milera, Keeler, Phillipou, or Collard. We are finally selecting players who have some tricks , rather than a conga line of solid, stodgy plodders. We've seen how other clubs have benefitted from recruiting these types of players. They bring energy and they make the opposition nervous when they're around the ball.
The focus on speed has be obvious recently. Hotton, Wanganeen-Milera, Henry, and now Collard. It's been well overdue

Re: Lance Collard
You are spot on there - a clear focus on speed and footskills.
Perhaps a continuation of the Brad Hill obsession.

Yeah... unfortunately, they couldn't trade out Harley Reid straight back out after picking him at #1

Re: Lance Collard
I think we have the right player to make high half forward great again and a quick turnover maestro to boot. Looks like a goal kicking upgrade on Gresham and Billings.
I reckon this kid will kick plenty.
