Keep Coffield
I don't know what everyone else thinks but in pondering about Nick Coffield's future I have become increasingly convinced that the club should sign him up for the next two years.
Looking at his record, long term injuries have kept him out of the game in both 2022 and 2023 which means that the club has not been able to fully assess his potential, which his draft ranking at pick 8 in 2017 suggests he certainly had amply demonstrated.
At 23 he is at the perfect age to resume his career in senior football.
It's been suggested that as a 191 cm defender it will be difficult for Coffield to force his way into the side, and while that has some currency, if he does indeed possess the talent to play senior footy I'm sure the selectors will find a spot for him, perhaps as a midfielder.
Either way, we don't want to see a repeat of the dreadful decision by the club to let Joel Smith go to Hawthorn after he was injured in 1997, and went on to become a very good player with the Hawks for another 10 years...

Re: Keep Coffield
I agree we should keep him.
He has shown he has the talent, finished top 5 in B&F in 2020 when we made the finals.
He just needs to be able to stay on the park.
With his injury record the last couple of years we would get bugger all for him so his value is far higher for us to keep than trade.

Re: Keep Coffield
I'm not sold on him. You can count on one hand how many good games he's played.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Keep Coffield
So what happened in 2021?
Like quite a few others who exited the hubris of 2020, he just didn’t quite shine as much in the first half of the ‘21 season, and then, post bye he really fell off, and wa dropped from around round 16-19 before coming back better, but not quite 2020, at the end of the season.
Then ‘22 and ‘23 were almost lost seasons. He is another reason why RTB did an amazing job, as many of the ‘stars’ have or had been falling off a bit in ‘21-‘22

Re: Keep Coffield
I don’t have an opinion on this, but I would be interested in why you say we should trade Coffield.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Keep Coffield
If another club wants him then i say move him on.
Do a package deal and tell that club they can have Jones as well.

Re: Keep Coffield
I think it would be one we would regret as he has the potential to be a very good intercept marker,

Plenty of other duds to get rid of first.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Keep Coffield
1/ he wants out
2/ he’s got the attributes not the application or toughness
3/ he hasn’t done anything (other than his draft pick) to suggest he’s worth anything

Re: Keep Coffield
Couldn't agree more. Potentially an elite player IMO. You find a spot for good players and I feel he will be a very good oneSanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 15 Sep 2023 1:18pm I don't know what everyone else thinks but in pondering about Nick Coffield's future I have become increasingly convinced that the club should sign him up for the next two years.

Could be even better. I think Ross and the new brains trust owe it to themselves to see what he can offer with a decent injury runshanegrambeau wrote: ↑Fri 15 Sep 2023 10:51pmYeplongtimesaint wrote: ↑Fri 15 Sep 2023 10:04pm I think it would be one we would regret as he has the potential to be a very good intercept marker,

Possession is nine-tenths of the law...
A bird in the hand...
It would be really special if we can keep both Clark and Coff and hopefully they both step up in 2024.

Re: Keep Coffield
Yeah
Fair enough
But I bet they regret some selection decisions for that final. And that the selection procedures will be reviewed .
I think he’s got class and. He’s still young enough for attitude adjustment too

Re: Keep Coffield
Yep, get rid of him and Clark even if we only get 2 x 3rd round picks, a lesson for incompetence.

Re: Keep Coffield
Everyone is tradeable for the right price.
Coffield's asking price is a late first rounder or the first pick of second round.
I wouldn't take any less than that, keep him on our list and he's a breakout season away from being worth a top 10 pick.
