Re: Billings injured AGAIN
At the risk of sounding callous (which I’ve done before)…
Why would you or anyone be surprised. He’s injured coming back from injury this week… like he was during the preseason, like when he came back to to play seniors mid last year, and 7-8 times before that.
I called this this last year and am beating the drums about it now…
Billings
Jones
McKenzie
They will never be the players we want because they can’t stay on the park for more than 3 weeks without getting hurt. It’s the same stuff over and over and over again.
At this point either their bodies are incapable of getting through the work… or they can’t spot the signs… or they just won’t follow the program to the detail necessary… or they’re too far gone at this point.
There’s pbly a million in the salary cap for those three… Put a line through the lot

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
In reality is it really that big a deal? Not like he was getting picked anyway.
Should have been in the seniors the last few weeks, its bizarre...

I doubt he would have been able to get through a game at senior level unscathed

Thats a surprise. At least we won't have to listen to why he hasn't been picked.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
The issue is he wont be playing any where to increase his trade value and we may end up stuck with him for another 2 years.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
Its too late to worry about his trade value. He took a massive cut on his last contract. He had no trade value then and he has no value in any process until he proves he can be durable. He has been doing minimal work and hanging on for a while.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Tue 06 Jun 2023 4:38pmThe issue is he wont be playing any where to increase his trade value and we may end up stuck with him for another 2 years.

Unfortunately, as much as we need the 3 players you mentioned, i think you're right.skeptic wrote: ↑Tue 06 Jun 2023 3:39pmAt the risk of sounding callous (which I’ve done before)…

We're not good enough or at a stage where we can have important, well paid senior players in the medical room for months on end with a variety of injuries.

Ahhh the old hamstring in the cold hard months of winter.
A really nice way to park yourself in the departure lounge.

I'm going early, Billings is the first on the list to say he doesn't believe in magic.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
Bad luck for Jack but this just shows that we should have put a couple of players on the LTI list and had a chance to have a look at a player or two from the mid season draft. They only needed to be contracted for six months and could then be moved on if unsuccessful. But we continued to sit on our hands with Jones, McKenzie, Hayes, Coffield, Allison, Hotton and now Billings all likely to sit out the season in the medical room. This lack of action will see us destined for mediocrity for a good while yet.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
This is the key element of my innovative plan for list development, essentially you go for high turn over on low percentage, highly speculative recruitment options but only with a capped number of the list at which you apply the program to.
The program has three bandwidths of rolling recruits including 6 month, 12month and 24 month contracts and staged so you have 7 players always rolling through the club concurrently on the program.
1 x 24 months
2 x 12 months
4 x 6 months
And depending at what level you are at you can only rise to the next level but you enter the program and 6 months and fight to progress from there, so 6 rolls into 12, 12 rolls into 24 and if you reach the KPIs at the end of a 24 you can then negotiate another 24 month contract at which point negotiations can be opened up to greater incentives. And you can only top up from the next lowest level with recruitment for 6 month tops coming from the open market.
I've called it the hungry scattergun recruitment program, the math behind it is quite elegant.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
I feel for the young man. Hard to imagine that Billings at his best is not a good thing for our best 22. Also hard to imagine any (real) interest, trade & salary cap relief for the Club.
Queue: hindsight gurus banging on about the durability & skills of the Bont.
Time to move on from Jones, Billings, MacKenzie, Bytel & any other soft tissue victim.

It could be a good list restumping with that injury prone 4 gone, providing our list people don't bungle it when recruiting their replacements.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
What if those Injury prone players - have a good pre season
And hardly miss a game for the next 4 years
The bulldogs traded a very injury prone prick tease HF in Shaun Higgins at 27 he wen on to play 5 years at North, hardly missed as a pure inside mid was a dual B&F and AA

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
And what if Hannebery played 120 games for us.
Do you back it to happen BM?
What do you think the odds are for players that have been injury prone for 10 years having 3 uninterrupted years at the end of their careers and suddenly become the players they always could have been.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
Lets segway from Billings ongoing injury concerns to other players with long-term injuries, such as Coffield, Jones, Hayes, Membrey, and McKenzie, who will all need extended time at Sandringham to find full fitness and touch again, just like Billings.
The obvious proof of this rule is Billings and Membrey.
The exception to this rule is King, but his aerobic fitness can be hidden more than any other player, since he plays deep forward and doesn't ruck.
I heard Robert Harvey flagging the inminent return of most of these injured players after the bye on SEN this evening , which sounds like positive spin vs reality for June at the very least.

Re: Billings injured AGAIN
Billings did his hammy in the last few minutes of the Sandy game, nearly two weeks ago. He is out for 4 to 6 weeks , so 2 to 4 weeks to go. He will be back shortly, or one would hope so.BadRossco wrote: ↑Tue 06 Jun 2023 6:09pm Bad luck for Jack but this just shows that we should have put a couple of players on the LTI list and had a chance to have a look at a player or two from the mid season draft. But why do the same players keep getting injured? That is the more important issue.

I'm no expert but I would suspect the treatment is the same regardless and the scan just confirms timelines
