How's Paddy?
I was pleased to see him appear healthy & playing so well in a new position.
I had/have a strong stance on him ever stepping into contact sports again but he did. It seemed pretty good for a while.
Now we havent seen him or heard a peep since round 3.
Anyone know how he is travelling?

Paddy is completing some light aerobic exercise as a part of his recovery. He continues to see external specialists as part of his recovery and his wellbeing remains the number one priority.

In other words he is going to retire.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Couldn’t care less how he’s going! He’s the Swines problem now. I just see him as the lemon our numpty recruiters drafted instead of Petracca
P.S: Was hoping this thread would be about Paddy Ryder.

Re: How's Paddy?
In 2014 Petracca was seen unanimously as the no.1 pick and generational talent before the draft, I still to this day cannot believe our recruiters went against the expectations of the entire AFL industry all other club scouts in picking Mccartin. Goes to show drafting on hype is almost always a winning strategy (with a few notable exceptions *see jack Watts*)Sainternist wrote: ↑Sat 20 May 2023 10:20pm Couldn’t care less how he’s going! Pretty brutal and insensitive comment. AFL is only a game. Paddy McCartin is someone’s son, someone’s brother, someone’s friend and so on.Sainternist wrote: ↑Sat 20 May 2023 10:20pm Couldn’t care less how he’s going! He’s the Swines problem now. You should be ashamed of your comment and really have a good hard look at yourself. How would you feel if he was your son?
I thinks you should head off and barrack for Collingwood, you will have lots more miserable souls to associate with there.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Oh, get off your high horse! Okay, so, it’s only a game, but why is McCartin still playing it, even though he knows full well he is risking his own well-being?happy feet wrote: ↑Sat 20 May 2023 11:56pmPretty brutal and insensitive comment. It was a massive mistake in him being recruited. We could have had Petracca! The year before, the numpties chose Billings over Bontempelli. Just imagine if our midfield was made up of both Petracca and Bontempelli. That is a premiership midfield. Instead, we now have a mediocre midfield. Oh, but we can reminisce over what could have been with Paddy McCartin instead. How dare you suggest I join the Filth! I have been following St.Kilda for over 40 years and buy a membership every year (this year I’m paying for two!). Maybe you can jump on the Swines bandwagon, since you love Paddy so much!

I'm with the second guy. We should care about his welfare and not pass it off as a "Swine Problem".
I'm of course similarly irritated by the recruiting, but Paddy vs Petracca in many ways is the tip of the iceberg. We drafted horrendously for years under Trout, whose primary criteria was "good person from a good family"
when I'm like..... I don't give a f*** if they're a good person or about their family.
Can they play killer football?

I couldn’t care less if you have been a member for 40 years. Try 55 years like me and others.
Yeah, the recruiting sucks, but it wasn’t Paddy’s fault we recruited him and has nothing to do with his current health situation so why try it tie the two together.
You can try and defend the ‘couldn’t care less about Paddy’ line whatever way you like, but the comment was mean spirited and quite horrible and certainly does not portray you in a very good way at all.
I’m sure the majority of people don’t wish Paddy any ill feelings and hope for him to have a good future. I certainly hope he does not play again for his own health.

Re: How's Paddy?
Dude! He’s an opposition player! Why are our hearts meant to bleed for him? I felt sorry for him after a series of concussions initially, but he’s going against serious health warnings issued by doctors. It’s like a stunt person being told of the dangers in performing a stunt. I mean, Evel Knievel knew about the risks involved before driving motorbikes off ramps, launching himself hundreds of feet into the air, not knowing whether his bike would land properly; but if he f***ed up, I’m pretty sure he didn’t want people crying for him. Why should we shed tears for McCartin?happy feet wrote: ↑Sun 21 May 2023 10:10amCouldn’t care less about Paddy. If we were playing the swans in the granny and someone put Fatty out of the game with a deliberate head knock and we went on to win, you wouldn’t care less about him.
As sainternist said, he’s their problem.

Re: How's Paddy?
To be honest, I thought our club did the responsible thing in exiting Paddy from the list.
On the flip side, Sydney picking up was irresponsible, as he was only 1 head knock away for career over..he’s now had 11 concussions!!

Paddy is a human being trying to do what he wants to do in life. Everyone knows his journey so if sympathy and perhaps general concern about his welfare isn't your go, then I'm sure basic respect as a middle-ground sentiment shouldn't be that hard to reach...

It's not so much about respect but for him he should be reading the tea leaves. It's blatantly obvious what he needs to do. Have a look at all the past players lodging claims against the AFL about the effects of concussion on their lives. This is a footy forum and I'm sure he wouldn't be reading this crap anyway.outside66 wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 2:36pm Paddy is a human being trying to do what he wants to do in life. There is definitely a lack of respect from some in this forum i.e. calling him fatty, a lemon etc. Some treat the topic of Paddy with the respect and sensitivity it deserves whereas there are some turds in this forum that just won't flush.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 3:30pmIt's not so much about respect but for him he should be reading the tea leaves. He hasn’t been at the club in years. We may as well start threads about other former players: Jamie Cripps, Ben Long, Tom Hickey, Nick Hind and also running commentaries about Mini McQualter coaching Richmond. And while we’re at it, let’s all have a group hug and drink hot cups of herbal tea!!outside66 wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 4:48pmThere is definitely a lack of respect from some in this forum i.e. calling him fatty, a lemon etc. Some treat the topic of Paddy with the respect and sensitivity it deserves whereas there are some turds in this forum that just won't flush.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 3:30pmIt's not so much about respect but for him he should be reading the tea leaves. Re: How's Paddy?
And IF we had recruited someone instead of Billings because etc etc what is to say that we would have had the Number 1 Draft Pick the next season?
Really this should have/would have carry on is nonsense of the first order
McCartin was rated as he was in his Draft Year, as a key forward
And injuries got in the way - noting he played as a key defender in a Sydney Grand Final side
23 players run onto the field every week
Teams win premierships, not star players
Not even Lockett or Harvey or Hayes or Riewoldt - and the list goes on and on as St Kilda followers should know only too well
In regards Paddy McCartin, as always, we wish him the best of good luck (including because he is a former St Kilda player)
No doubt he is in the best hands and taking the best of advice in following his ambitions to play at AFL level
One question also is how many seasons did it take for the Melbourne player to start having an impact - with the support of others in Melbourne’s midfield?
How many high Draft Picks did Melbourne have v St Kilda?

Yes, the lack of respect shown is shameful. As I said he is someone’s son, someone’s brother. And for those dummies that think he is Sydney’s problem, if this goes to court we will be in it up to our necks as most of the concussions happened when he played with us. Your precious membership fees will be going to Paddy in a legal settlement.outside66 wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 4:48pmThere is definitely a lack of respect from some in this forum i.e. calling him fatty, a lemon etc. Some treat the topic of Paddy with the respect and sensitivity it deserves whereas there are some turds in this forum that just won't flush.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 24 May 2023 3:30pmIt's not so much about respect but for him he should be reading the tea leaves.
