Are you suggesting that Philippou (I assume that's who you meant) was "handy" tonight? He had a shocker!

Re: Poe was handy but
It was his worst game by far. He looked like he needed a rest last week and playing him off a 5 day break was dumb. 5 turnovers from 12 touches (only 2 contested and 2 were kicks) is a very poor game. He had a couple of nice moments but needs a spell. The kid just turned 18 last christmas.

The writing has been on the wall for a few weeks. In hindsight Windy should have played and Pou should have been the sub. They are obviously trying to fast track him.

He's going to be a good player, but Billings will add more as it stands. Yes, time for a rest.

Looks like he needs a rest. Just a kid coming off his first pre season, some tough games and a five day break. Can’t blame him.

An opportunity to rip it up in the VFL and reset his mojo
Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Re: Poe was handy but
He needs a spell - I’d rest him completely next week
If Billings had 12 possessions (2 kicks) we’d be wanting him dropped. You have to earn your keep in the AFL, once you cross the white line birth certificates mean nothing.
The other thing I’ve noticed is a bad habit - that is his want to handball first. That generally means you are struggling with the pace of the game and hot potato the ball.
He has good vision- but needs to use his leg more

If only for the ill advised screw kick at goal in 2nd quarter.
He keeps running under the ball. Actually looked like a first year player for the first time this year

Re: Poe was handy but
I agree B.M., let him have a complete week off to refreshen & recharge...too good for an extended spell. We need games into these kids. Owens benefited from his tastes in 2022.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 29 Apr 2023 2:16am He needs a spell - I’d rest him completely next week

He looked gassed more often last night than in any other game
Interesting observation about him looking to handball at first opportunity. Is it a bad habit or something most players do to buy time?

Windy is well off the pace and will more than likely be at Sandy next week as well.

Re: Poe was handy but
In the two losses this year on both occasions the coaches failed to nullify the massive influence of Nick Daicos and Jason Horne-Francis respectively, they both ran riot and were arguably the difference between the teams.
It therefore surprises me that Marcus Windhager has been left out of the best 22 in both games, as he excelled as a 'stopper/tagger' last year, coming 5th in the Rising Star award.
As for being "off the pace", I doubt that he would have been the sub if there were issues over his fitness - if they felt he was not quite ready, I imagine he would have played in the VFL.
Make no mistake, Windhager is a gun! No less than his mates Owens and Wanganeen Milera.

Re: Poe was handy but
He was monstered by the opposition (not always fairly). On some occasions he was one against three - not exploited by whoever was a loose man. The problem with replacing him with Jack Billings is that it will make our undersized forward line even smaller.

Re: Poe was handy but
Very strange. Is Billings injured? I like Phillipou, but he has a way to go in terms of consistency. He is going to ultimately be a gun, of that I have no doubt.

No Billings in the squad is odd…
