Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
I can't see for the life of me why we'd ever want him. I must confess that I have never even been totally sold on Max. Undoubtedly, he's terrific at winning the ball inside the forward 50, and is amazingly good for a big man when the ball's on the ground. But, like St Nick before him,I wouldn't put money on him converting more than 3 out of 5 set shots in a pressure game from 40 metres out directly in front at Marvel with the roof on. And converting set shots is what good forwards do.
If Bing doesn't end up going to the Pies, perhaps we could offer them Max as a direct swap for De Goey. Sacrilege, I know.
But I am convinced that our main weakness is not up forward, but - as it has been more many years - in the midfield in terms of attacking potency. Things are a little better in that department this season due to Clark stepping up a bit, Sinclair playing further forward on occasions, and Crouch displaying an attacking dimension to his game that we haven't seen previously. But we are still particularly weak in this area. That's where a De Goey (or a Petracca, but let's not go back there) would have made a massive difference.

Phillipou will likely fill that requirement in the future

Our future midfield will be Windhager, Owens, Phillipou, Hotton…meher baba wrote: ↑Wed 19 Apr 2023 9:23am I can't see for the life of me why we'd ever want him. Good, we don't need him.

Would take B.King in a heartbeat
To win a premiership you need a point of difference
2 x 200+cm forwards as athletic as them would give us that
A potent weapon
They would be a better version of Hipwood and Daniher

Absolutely batshiite crazy stuff!!
Glad these people aren’t in charge

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
I do continue to have a chuckle to my self when I see posters on here refer to players by nicknames is it too show how 'cool' you are or are you just too lazy to write the full name? I still have no f****** clue who "Bing" is,then the post it's self where you refer to a article that you don't link to or better still cut and paste it here so the rest of us can read it

If it's in the Herald Sun, you can be absolutely certain it won't happen.
If Ben King leaves the Suns, it'll be to come and play with his twin brother at the club he grew up supporting.
Otherwise, he'll stay put.

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
I think i agree with both of these lines of thinking.
Riewoldt for all of his poor kicking… is he guy that essentially led our 04-06 and 09-10 push. You need the balance of mids and twin towers
Ben would offer us a secondary tall target up forward… or could push up the ground and do the secondary ruck relief role… or alternate with Battle to give us a forward/back flexibility
Would be a coup to get him
Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
Owens and Phillipou will transition to mid field roles - joining Windhager and others we draft and develop.
Plus we currently have the resources we have, added to this season by Clark and Sinclair
The pressure these developing players will bring will initially fall on our more mature players - such as Ross and Webster
The challenge on our youth is to push past the established players - as always
And we have some youth coming through

And just to add, given the collapse of Murdoch circulation figures hence all the give away offers, they are returning to their traditional audience being Collingwood supporters

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
Max and Ben in the forward line, rotating through defence as a kickout target, absorbing all the opposition's defenders ... crazy not to take it.
Would be huge, good for St Kilda and good for the game.
Ben out of form right now which should make him more gettable.

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
With St Kilda openly stating they will target players who grew up in "their area", I'm guessing from Brighton to the Peninsula, the King brothers would be a marketers dream for the St Kilda F.C..
Whether they can make it happen is the big question. I'd love to see it as a supporter because it can only make the Club stronger on & off the field.
Is it more realistic than grabbing Rozee & / or Bergman? RFA & FA are really our only opportunities. We cannot forgoe the draft again.

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
I heard that Eddy mentioned that collingwood would be making a play for him and Lloyd also said that Essendon would be making a play for him as well. But Eddy did say that the saints are ready to make a massive offer to him at the end of his current contract

This is correct, would be a marketers dream, I’m sure they’ll help sell a bunch of tickets and memberships.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 19 Apr 2023 6:21pm the King brothers would be a marketers dream for the St Kilda F.C..
But if delivering premierships is what we’re interested in, then it’s the wrong move.
Unless they’re both willing to forgo millions of dollars each over their careers, the cost in salary cap and draft picks would hamper the rest of the team too much to achieve the ultimate success IMO
Multiple superstar mids is what u need to win premierships.

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
In our GF years I am quite sure our mids were not the issue. If we can get the right cattle, the right bounce & some accuracy & composure, then we will win a Premiership.The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 19 Apr 2023 7:03pmThis is correct, would be a marketers dream, I’m sure they’ll help sell a bunch of tickets and memberships.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 19 Apr 2023 6:21pm the King brothers would be a marketers dream for the St Kilda F.C..

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
The Dogs focussed on going really tall, but then found that too much height can hurt you re rebound efficiency, and ability to apply forward pressure.
You need to you key forwards to be contributing to the team aspects too.
Now this I agree with. Personally while YES you want two true key forwards, you also want them to be different in playing styles.
Curnow and McKay
Cameron and Hawkins.
Caminiti has impressed me. Nice pace, mobility and aggression plus is a good clunker.
Then we had in the raw Keeler who is different again from both Max and The Hammer.
Overall now our list is looking quite ok.
Down back we are looking quite good. Stocker has been a good find. Van Es looks a likely future key back.
McLennan I am quietly confident about.
Marshall is a very good around the ground, but any club would love a Gawn. Hopefully Heath comes on, but early days yet and he may not make it.
We still need a beast true gun mid. Owens and/or The Poo may be that. Though I think Owens will be more suited to the role he is currently playing , plus more wingtime.
So I still think our main need is a true gun mid.

Re: Whispers of Bing to Pies
It depends on the deal but I’ve seen enough of Caminiti to suggest that he is going to be an excellent foil for Max over the next 10 years. They need to start thinking of succession planning for Members. Still has 4 good years left.
