If he can get past his injuries…
Certainly worth another year. Looked promising and we’re not exactly overwhelmed with depth in the relief ruck category

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Just wondering if he fits into a Lyon team as opposed to a Ratts team ..does he play the Marshal role . Really he is a bit of an unknown going forward . Will he be better than Heath or Campbell .. good back up none the less. Can we carry those 3 in one team.

If he doesnt get a chance to play at full fitness, yes.
If he plays and flops (unlikely), no.
If he plays like last year, 2 years.

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
If it was the right decision at the end of last year to give him an extension then he should be given another extension.
But that original decision should be reviewed just as the decision to extend Ratten was.

Is he a better prospect than pick 60+

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Looks like he’s safe then!
But the way the team is playing right now ( including saints players at Sandy) and with so many young promising guys on the list- there are going to be some tough decisions to be made at seasons end you would think
There’s going to have to be a couple of good players let go
Maybe Dmac and Jones don’t come good all season ( not sure their contract status) but either way at least 5 (?) guys won’t be there next year

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Yes, but it is looking unlikely that we will see him play this season.
He might play at Sandringham late in the season, but he is still listed as 9 weeks isn't he?
If so, you wouldn't want him reinjuring himself again and placing his pre-season in jeopardy.

Hayes has played one good game, and if he can't get over his injuries, then I don't think he will be in the long term picture.

Looking through those names
Gresh
Jones
Dmac
Ross
Campbell
Caminati
Connolly
Webster
Coffield
Clark
Bytel
Stocker
Wood
Peris
Adams
Byrnes
Connolly seems the obvious one that has run out of time. Not in the team and lots of players ahead of him in that position.
Campbell pbly not far behind him.
Gresh and Clark won’t be cut. Traded maybe but will play somewhere.
Caminati, Byrnes, Stocker and Wood pbly be in the done enough category
Adam and Peris have pbly done enough for a minor bump
Ross and Webster safe enough at this stage if they want to go around again.
Jones, Dmac and Coffield are all arguably in trouble. Good players but are never on the park.
Personally I’d keep Coffield, cut Jones and wait and see with Dmac
Would keep Bytel ahead of all of them.

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Interesting comment that Jones, DMac and Coff are in trouble because they can't get on the park but keep Bytel. I like Bytel but he is one of the most injury prone players we have. This last one was bad luck but it may come down to how long it takes him to get over it. Maybe offer him a rookie contract to see if he can get his body right.

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Don’t get the term ‘injury prone’ when it comes to AFL players
It’s not like they purposely get injured, so they can’t play
It’s a ballistic contact sport, you’re lucky if you don’t get injured
Which of these injuries were available
Coffield knee
Clark facial fracture/Shoulder
Steele Shoulder
King Shoulder
Hayes Kness
Gresham knee/Achilles
It happens in footy - players get injured
I’ll tell you another injury prone player for 9 years
Mason Wood at North
Or
Brad Crouch at Adelaide

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Yes, but some players are more prone to suffering from injury than others. Most players have niggling injuries all the time, some play through it and others simply can't. Some guys cop a hit and are out for a game others get the same hit and are out for a month. That is the difference between an injury prone player and non injury prone player

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Think this may maybe our year to trade someone of value to get something of value. Not sure who but we have a glut of half backs so perhaps a Coff, or JB. Trouble is boths value would be low ATM.
Saints are in the market for a ruckman, so that suggests Campbell and Hayes have a question mark on them. Think Leo, Highmore, Jones, Bytel, Alison, Adams would be at risk

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Why would we be in the market for a ruckman
We have one
Who thrives on being Number 1
Played his best season in 2019 as the sole ruckman
Played better 2020-2022 when Paddy was out
We need a forward who can pinch hit in the ruck

We have one but maybe you won't see him until next year. Keeler is his name.

Re: Does Hayes get another year .
Peris and Adams just need more developing time.
Agree on Connolly and Campbell. Jones, DMac, Allison and maybe Bytel are far from safe but it's a long season.
To early to be making calls ffs.
