The Skipper’s shoulder … again 👎🏼

Post: # 1999014Post Saintmatt »

Urrrgh. I hear he’s buggered the same shoulder as last year. Set for a decent stretch on the sidelines. FFS. Can’t take a trick

Scans are today. Hopefully just deep speculation. It's OK, it's a year of discovery, Owens has his hands full at HF but we may discover he is really a super mid.

We wouldn't need him just yet, as Crouch, Ross, Windhager and Clark - with Gresham coming back to help out and Sinclair and Stocker sometimes pushing forward - will do the job ok. But Steele will be sorely missed: he's a special player.

I think Owens has to start some mid rotations now .. it’s a brutal gameplan to execute and we’re going to need his big frame at times at clearances. Some perspective on his new size … he was nose to nose with Josh Bruce last night. Beast of a size for a mid.

How far away is Bytel...not a bad replacement for the skipper in the short term

Does a lot of the heavy lifting, if I recall correctly our performance fell off a cliff after he went down last year :(

Without Windy playing his usual tagging role, they made sure that someone was going to be responsible for smothering their best distributors. Steele went to Tom Libratore at the first centre bounce and then when Bevo changed things Steele smothered Caleb Daniel or Jack McCrea at centre bounces.

Crouch had the job on Bont and I think the mids as a group were all chipping in with Clark and Sebby making sure Bont wasn't given much space

Steele was awesome in the first quarter. He was not only good defensively but got a fair bit of the ball himself. Gave us a great start and kicked the last goal of that first quarter

When he was off the ground, the Saints coaches subbed Byrnes but they brought Steele back on with a stuffed shoulder.

Strategic move designed to NOT let the opposition get any sort of morale boost. I think we were 5-6 goals up anyway

He'll be missed but with Windy and Seb Ross back on the team, along with Bytel hopefully not too far away we should be able to cover

So arguably 3 of our best players are out of the team.

In the 150th year too!

Just horrid.

We need to reschedule the 150th. Jack epitomises Saints. Will be so sad he won't be there.
