Phillipou
Great debut
Just re watching the last quarter and he was instrumental
Clean hands, hard at it, smart player with good skills
The kid is only just 18 years old
Dead set gun in the making

Re: Phillipou
Yep. Super exciting. Was lively, competed… incredibly composed, executed and just has that look as though he will make something happen around the contest.
Most exciting debutant we’ve had for a while.
I really like him.

Re: Phillipou
Will get better when he gets more selfish. Gave a few off when he should have backed himself to kick the goal.

Re: Phillipou
That beautiful left foot at half forward , good hands , knows where the goals are. Where have I seen that before ? Not quite the start of George Young who kicked 4 and was BOG on debut in round one 50 years ago ( which I remember like it was yesterday ) , but then again this kid is just 18. Exciting.

Re: Phillipou
Know we're only one game in but gee wiz it's hard not to get excited about this kid.
He's got all the hallmarks of being that superstar gun we've been crying out for.
Our own Bont, Dusty, Tractor type player. I know its a team game but the best teams have that one superstar player and he could be anything.

I'm very excited by him and Owen's. Get Wingy back then watch what happens.
Of course, St Kilda only recruits delisted rejects from other clubs. How did Wood and Stocker go today?

Re: Phillipou
Yes !
Can we sign him up now for the next 10 .
A decent debut , but it was all the little 1 percenters he did that excites me for the future, thinking/ hoping he'll be all Australian quality before too long.

George Young. Elegance on a football field. I hope Matteus is like him.George27 wrote: ↑Sun 19 Mar 2023 8:46pm That beautiful left foot at half forward , good hands , knows where the goals are. Re: Phillipou
16 disposals.
I was worried about him playing at such a young age, but geez he oozes poise and self-belief. He knows he belongs.
His mum shed a tear at that magic goal, too

Goddard was the last 17 year old
7 others players on the current list were18.
Windhager, Owens, Hunter Clark, Josh Battle, Jade Gresham, Dan McKenzie and Jack Billings.
According to AFL tables Owens is the youngest of those at 18 years 175 days. Billings and Gresham both made their debuts at 18 years and 216 days.
By my calculations, Phillipou was 18 years and 82 days on debut which makes him the youngest since Goddard unless we can find someone else.
Nathan Burke, Barry Breen, Carl Ditterich and Matt Maguire also debuted at 17.

Re: Phillipou
I was a bit worried that he'd be pushed around by AFL level opposition but then seeing him tower over Dal Santo post-match put it into perspective. He's a long way off being the finished product but he's a big, explosive athlete.

He, Caminiti and Owens are all big men, they are just young big men but they can all move very well.mad saint guy wrote: ↑Tue 21 Mar 2023 10:47pmI was a bit worried that he'd be pushed around by AFL level opposition but then seeing him tower over Dal Santo post-match put it into perspective.
