Ominous signs???
Stopped for a coffee in a cafe in Perth this morning, started reading The West Australian about Freo’s training.
Here was their coach Longmuir saying it’s going to be ‘tricky’ to choose 6 or 7 players out of 12 healthy forwards to play round one…… oh for the Saints to have that luxury with forwards at present.
More lousy news to come, he says Nat Fyfe is settling into his new forward role and looking so good on the track
Then he goes on to talk about their wingers fighting for limited spots …. “They’re fighting out a good battle for our wing roles, “ Longmuir said.
Meanwhile our best 2 wingers from last season McKenzie & Wood haven’t been able to have a full pre-season. McKenzie still in doubt with his calf & Wood often doing light training sessions. I hope flakey Brad Hill can get it all together on a wing this season.
Oh for the Saints to have such luxury for our round 1 meeting with Freo eh?

Re: Ominous signs???
Not too worried about their forward line, our backline should go ok this year even though we are still short tall who can take care of the monster forwards.
However their backline is very strong and our forward line is arguably the weakest in the league and that is where we will lose most of our games with our inability to kick a winning score.

Is Longmuir really the person to go for an objective, unbiased opinion? It’s not like he doesn’t have a reason to pump up some tyres.
I mean Freo were pretty decent last year but “12 forwards” all in contention for round 1 with overflowing depth on the wings too!!!
Oh to get to write our own reviews.

Take that to the bank

Re: Ominous signs???
Heard it all before. We beat them last year in Perth and by ten goals the year before in Hobart.
Sometimes when you have injuries it gives others a chance.
We won 11 games last year, ten the year before and 11 in 2020 in a shortened season. I think we have a very even team.
We have a few out, sure, but sometimes the guys who replace injured regulars have a point to prove. I have a feeling that old habits die hard and we might find that, all accounts to the contrary, we go back to being a highly defensive outfit again - even if it's only in the short term.
Freeeeoo, way to blow ...

Honestly "The West Australian" who reads that s*** hag of a newspaper. It makes the Herald Sun look like a literary masterpiece.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

A month is a long time in the preseason, be careful what you complain about. It might come back to bite you.
Sounds like not too much is settled at Freo, their recruits must be showing up their established stats or something?

If we are ever going to beat anyone it will be in the first round (and last round).

The ominous sign is Bradshaw's photo on M. Windhager's locker, under "things to do."

You'd hardly expect Longmuir to be anything but bullish about his players Loris, can't recall ever reading about a coach lamenting lack of talent before the start of a season. What's more, Longmuir in his 4th year will be under the pump to get Fremantle into at least a prelim final this year so naturally he's upbeat.
That said, there's no question that Freo do in fact have a very good list which includes arguably one of the best ruck combinations in the comp with Darcy and Jackson. Fyfe managed only 7 games last year and it's well known that his body is wrecked going into his 14th season.
St Kilda will do well to chalk up a win in round one....

"Any candidate for political office, once chosen for leadership, must have the will to take the wheel of a very powerful car, tasked from time to time to make a fast journey down a narrow, precipitous mountain road – and be highly skilled at driving. Otherwise, he is disqualified from the company of competent leaders."
