Stocker says he's a lifelong Saints supporter.
Geoff Walsh says Stocker 'held nothing back' in training- didn't somebody say he wasn't running well?

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Interesting one. Carlton mate reckons never got played in the position he was recruited to play. He reckons Carlton used lack of tank as excuse to justify why he played as a lockdown back pocket instead of mid field. Truth probably somewhere in between.
Probably low cost / risk selection

I would suspect that given the reported difficulties about his tank, the club pbly views this as a long term problem to correct and were keen for him to merely do the work to demonstrate that he was worth investing inWellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 10:00am Stocker says he's a lifelong Saints supporter.

I'd take those reports with a grain of salt, same people who think they are good judges of spacial distance between coaches training.skeptic wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 10:12amI would suspect that given the reported difficulties about his tank, the club pbly views this as a long term problem to correct and were keen for him to merely do the work to demonstrate that he was worth investing inWellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 10:00am Stocker says he's a lifelong Saints supporter.

But I think he's worth a punt based on needs in the midfield, hopefully he he makes the grade.

A friend of my brother-in law is in the fitness team at Carlton. Stocker definitely had issues with his tank, and that combined with their midfield being bolstered by the likes of Hewett and Cerra, he wasn't considered for a midfield role, so they let him go. Surplus to requirements.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Very happy to hear that news.
Stocker could well emulate Patrick Lipinski who the Dogs let go, was snapped up by Collingwood and played all 25 games last year.
Changing clubs quite often triggers players to lift their performance and prove the disbelievers wrong - he turns 23 next week and being ambidextrous gives him considerable advantage to impress selectors.

Liam Stocker is 6ft tall - too small. Patrick Lipinski is 6ft 2 inches tall - the minimum height for any mid in this modern game. And for backman - well, have a look at the height of Geelong's back six.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 11:13am Very happy to hear that news.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
That's exciting, with Phillipou emulating Bontempelli and Stocker emulating Lipimski our midfield all of a sudden is looking tip top.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 11:13am Very happy to hear that news.

So he is taller than Lachie Neale and the same height as Sam Walsh.
No, he is not as good as they are but I am only responding to the statement that 6 foot is too small.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Young stocker’s running has improved in recent times..as far as his height goes, he is powerfully built and tough!
We’ve got 2 tall mids in Owens & Phillipou, both will get some minutes through there…main thing is Stocker adds to our midfield depth, something that we’ve all been banging on about for years.
He is also a good kick on both sides, would be a tagging option if the boss wants to go down that path.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
One of my close mates is good friends with Andrew Russell.
FWIW his comments on Stocker were despite some mental health challenges, he is a really good kid who will work hard, tough as nails with good skills and vision, however is a very poor runner for an AFL midfielder and no amount of work will get him to modern AFL repeat endurance standards.
The quicker the quicker and more endurance based the game gets, the further behind he will be left.
Let's hope these comments are wrong and good luck to the boy.
I hope he sticks it up ém!

Common sense pick up
No way he should’ve been delisted, bizarre decision. Too good not to be on an AFL list.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Interesting entry on his Wikipedia page- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liam_Stocker
"Liam won the 2023 premiership with St Kilda after beating North Melbourne by 178 points"
I hope it is true but not sure it will last on the page for long.
Correction has been taken down now.

Sorry Love, your mob delisted him. Might have played for the blues but that was then. Never was a true blue and never will be. Now a true saint forevermore.

Interesting bit of feedback and RE the running, that’s what the rumour mill has suggested for a while.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 1:41pm One of my close mates is good friends with Andrew Russell.

It pbly ultimately leaves him outside of the middle in terms of workrate but not everyone on an AFL list is an elite runner. May end up in a pocket or flank playing deeper
