Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
I wonder if Ross had a word with his good mate SOS, or vice versa. Stocker has been plagued with mental health issues, so it'll be a challenge from a coaching perspective. Won't be surprised if he's not offerd a spot on the list
The only good thing to come out of the McKenna decision is that he didn't go to those red and black slimebags

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
My first thought is please no!
But now that he’s training with us good luck to the young fella, knock ‘em dead young man.
I think Stocker was the guy SOS traded up to secure a few years ago.
Most of what SOS touches as a recruiter has turned to sh!t.

Brisbane have added alot to their list this off season. McKenna another good addition.
Would have been nice for us to land some quality.

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
I agree D.B. with your first thought & thoughts on SOS but like you, I hope he gets a spot because it means he would have earned it.
He seems like he's wanting to prove something. He's a good age and was rated highly. Hoping for him his demons are gone and becomes the AFL player many believed he could be.
The article suggested Sinclair with more midfield time and Stocker slotting in across half back. Seems a popular spot with a few wanting it.

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
He's been described as an explosive inside midfielder who is a good kick on both sides ... he won the Morrish medal.
Didn't have much luck with injury early on.
Could flourish in the right environment?
Stocker could play as a mid-sized forward pocket even, early on?
He is a good tackler and has some goal sense.

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
I have a few Blues supporters in the extended family and they scratched their heads on why he was let go. Plenty worse on their list. As stated had some mental.health issues but in the right environment these can be managed. Kid can play so hope it goes well for him and us if we take him.

Worth a spot just for his attack on the contest against Stringer.

Worth a shot if he can get himself right as he is only 22.
Would be nice to get another one back on our hated foe Carlton.

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
Ask your mate what his favourite highlight was last season, losing to a crap list and missing the finals or choking the life out themselves and missing finals?
Speaking of getting a game...No Newnes, no Blues!

Is he the one you were referring to a few weeks back when you said we'd pick up a delisted mid?

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
From the Hun.
"Former Carlton defender Liam Stocker is set to train with St Kilda in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.
The former Blue, who was cut from Carlton after 28 games in four years, is keen to trial with the club when preseason training starts for the first-to-fourth year players next week.
Stocker, 22, wants to show he is worth a second chance at the top level after struggling to cement a regular position in navy blue last year.
Delisted Essendon key position player Josh Eyre is also considering a potential opportunity to train at a new club after he was dumped by the Bombers.
Liam Stocker could be taken by the Saints in the supplemental selection period.
Liam Stocker could be taken by the Saints in the supplemental selection period.
Stocker, from Sandringham, could add to the Saints’ defensive stocks with best and fairest Jack Sinclair expected to push for more time in the midfield in 2023 after an excellent season.
Stocker showed considerable promise as a tough ballwinner in his draft year, but there were concerns over his fitness and ability to break into the midfield at Carlton.
Stocker has recently questioned those doubts about his fitness base and said he was eager to maximise his potential after battling with life in the hubs throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Stocker also had to deal with the spotlight which followed him after Carlton traded its future first-round draft pick with Adelaide to snare him at pick 19 in the 2018 draft.
If he impresses, Stocker could be taken by the Saints in the supplemental selection period which allows clubs to select players without using a draft pick.
Liam Stocker could be a handy addition to the Saints’ defensive stocks.
Liam Stocker could be a handy addition to the Saints’ defensive stocks.
It will be a new chapter for St Kilda under second-time coach Ross Lyon who was headhunted by the club to take over from Brett Ratten.
It will be a homecoming for Lyon after coaching the club to three grand finals and four finals campaigns from his five seasons in charge between 2007-11.
St Kilda greats Robert Harvey and Lenny Hayes have also returned to the club along with respected football boss Geoff Walsh in a bid to help lift the Saints under Lyon in their 150th year.
But the list lacks top-end talent after loading up on mature-age and role players in recent years.
The Saints have pick nine in this year’s draft after deciding to keep hard nut Hunter Clark."

Coincidentally, similar size to Ben Long.
Be good if Liam could be a Mason Wood type story.

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
22 y.o., a lot younger;
Long has been inconsistent, and I have no idea whether that's on him or the coaches. But he's gone so it's moot.
Hopefully, our new coaching setup will be able to develop Stocker and get value from him.
So yeah, potentially, nice pickup

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
Spoke to my Carlton supporter relative who has contacts at the club.
Carlton wanted to use Stocker in midfield but he didn't have the tank so they played him at half back. Couldn't keep up during preseason practice matches when played on ball. Fatigued too quickly. They lost patience with him because they weren't convinced he was willing to put in the extra work. Make if that what you will
Unrealistic about his fitness?
Unwilling to accept strong feedback?
Anyway, can't guarantee the validity of all that. I'll take his word for it. He reckons Stocker can play, and says that he's not afraid of the physical side of the game. Good enough to play AFL but needs to get fitter and perhaps improve his attitude
