Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
It's a good question.
My feeling is this finals series shows Max two options of what he can be as a player.
Joe Daniher
Or
Lance Franklin
Regardless of which path he goes down he'll carve his own unique career but their the floor or ceiling of his career imo.
The major difference between the two, work rate, a will to be the man and a will to win.
It's up to Max which path he goes down- either way he is going to have a successful career.

Max will be better than any forward currently playing with possible exception of Hawkins.

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
Tad laughable...Max better than Lance Franklin? A player who had/has the "I'll rip your tits off if you get in my way" attitude to get the dang ball....
Max droops into "Matthew Richardson Syndrome"
too frequently...when out muscled.
He is a good player and will improve to greatness 110%.
The greatness factor will be determined by his attitude and self confidence...will that change?

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
2008 was Franklin’s 4th year
He kicked 100 goals
I think King will be be better than Daniher
But nowhere near as good as Franklin, Riewoldt, Brown, Pavlich, Tredrea

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
Lance Franklin kicked 125.84 in his first three seasons.
Max King kicked 112.91 in his first three seasons.
Joe Daniher kicked 65.53 in his first three seasons.
Tom Hawkins didn't kick over 35 goals in a year until his 6th season.

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
Both different eras. No one has gotten close to kicking 100 goals after Franklin did in ‘08. Mind you, most forwards can’t hit the backside of a barn from a set shot these days lol

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
Oppo worked out how to play him this year and our awful ball movement into the forward line didn't help.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Tue 20 Sep 2022 9:46am Tad laughable...Max better than Lance Franklin? A player who had/has the "I'll rip your tits off if you get in my way" attitude to get the dang ball....

He needs to learn how to use his attributes:
height
pace
skill below the knees
and he needs to get on his bike ala Riewoldt .
Upside is massive!

Not quite.
At 22 Max King has kicked 14 goals. He only turned 22 on July 7 2022.

Re: Do you expect King to be a better footballer than
King if ever this was a wake up call.
Comparisons to Special Officer Doofy should ring alarm bells.
Great forwards demand and lead. They demand how the ball is delivered, where it is delivered and how the forward line operates. They impose themselves on the team, opposition and game. King does it at times, almost teases that he know how to do it. But then retracts.
I dont think I have ever seen so many backmen at ease whilst standing in front of a key forward. Never happened with Lockett, G-Train (they would have ended up in the hospital ward) nor Hawkins or Buddy now.
King needs to work out what his weapons are, how to use them, then impose his way of playing onto the team.
Until he does, he will remain a work in progress until he is a missed opportunity.
He is no where close to the greats of the game at the same age.
