Horse
To me , he’s the coach saints should chase ….always seems to be around the 8 , players seemed to love him and they never stop showing desire to win and a chaos entry forward line not predictable like ours

Re: Horse
darn good coach. reckon he's about the best in the game - just has his teams so well disciplined and so honest. gets so much out of his players.

He won't come to our underachieving club, ever.desertsaint wrote: ↑Fri 02 Sep 2022 11:47pm darn good coach. reckon he's about the best in the game - just has his teams so well disciplined and so honest. gets so much out of his players.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

A good coach but take away Sydney's "free hit" academy & let's see how he goes

Re: Horse
How long do you give Ratts until the sack everyone brigade work their magic, my guess is between round 6 and 10 in 2024 if we don't make finals next year.

Re: Horse
Then that’s be Ratten not working any magic which is my tip
He’s in over his head
Swans are out talking to Leon Cameron as they know and want to bring expertise in to keep getting better
We still have Lade running our forward line cause it’s all nice n cozy At Moorabbin
Going nowhere

Re: Horse
I reckon Ratts is over his head, and can get a team so far, but lacks that little magic dust to go further- as was the case at Carlton. We are basically years into treading water.Teflon wrote: ↑Sat 03 Sep 2022 12:24pmThen that’s be Ratten not working any magic which is my tip

Re: Horse
I’d trust Ratten to make all the decisions before I trust the people who were there before he arrived
Ratten doesn’t run the St Kilda Football Club. Ratten certainly wasn't the guy who made the call to prize Brad Hill out of Fremantle. He didn’t make the final call on Hill’s salary or the cost in terms of draft picks we gave up for him…did he?
Ratten wasn’t the mastermind behind the plan to go and get Hill, Howard, Ryder, Jones and Butler in 2019. The football COO and the directors of football made the decisions that have us where we are now.
That was a plan that was devised to turn the club’s fortunes around. Lethlean was the one who chased a short sharp rise up the ladder…partly as a gamble to arrest our slide down the ladder and partly due to desperation because of our decreasing membership numbers and our increasing debt at the time. It worked for the short term.
And….Lethlean was the one who was behind bringing in Hannebery
Horse has earnt the right to call the shots at the Swans. He generally makes the right call

Re: Horse
Maybe if the club let Ratten formulate the list that he wants and with players playing in positions he believes they should play, we might get somewhere. I’d love for him to seriously take the reigns ( Clarko style) and call the shots a bit more

Re: Horse
Yeah I always like Horse
He comes across as pretty logical to me and his decision making seems easy to follow.
That said… Sydney obviously has a heck of a lot of talent in development, resources etc

Re: Horse
Gone from strength to strength. Rossy Lyon hasn't.
Horse can develop players, teach defence, teach attack, spot talent, apply flexibility.
Ross couldn't.
We picked Ross.
We are due for a dumb break aren't we (not sure we are capable of positioning ourselves for any other sort, but we keep hoping)

Re: Horse
Gotta love this forum. Horse has a good win and he's the man. Been coaching Swans a dozen years, plenty of finals, but only one flag, with all their advantages. Thorough coach but nothing spectacular.
If Pies upset the Cats today I assume many here will pile on the McCrae train, and forget Horse.

Re: Horse
Yes he is a good coach, but it's the entire Sydney football club that are good at what they do. They recruit well, develop their players and are prepared to make some hard but smart decisions eg Hannebery, Kennedy & McCartin this year. Listen to what Hickey said last night its the inclusitivity of the entire club that works, which makes everyone feel apart of something.
Longmire simply drives the standards required of his staff & players!
Ratten had zero credibility with the playing group the minute he started favouring highly paid players over others. You cant ask for players to give their all and put their bodies on the line, when others aren't. It will be the best thing the club has done in 10 years getting Hill off the list - perhaps then Ratts can go back to winning some trust.
Ratts match day coaching also needs to come under the microscope in the review? Apart from 1 or 2 players he is far too inflexible with player movement and really slow to react to game trends. He looks like a coach who has no control on whats evolving and no answers when opposition teams get run ons? We have him for another 2 years so hopefully he and the club can turn things around next season.

Re: Horse
Agree with most of what you say. Regarding surrounding him with better assistants. They i.e Lethlean and.management said the same thing about Richo. "We're going to get him better support, not sack him" or words to that effect. It made no difference, Richo wasn't up to the job.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 03 Sep 2022 2:44pmYes he is a good coach, but it's the entire Sydney football club that are good at what they do. Then they need to surround him and the players with the best assisants available.
If the head honcho doesn't command respect from the entire playing and coaching group, it makes zero difference who the assistants are.
The head coach needs to drive the footy culture. I seriously doubt Ratten can do it. Similar issue to Richardson. Too nice. Not enough hard edge. I think we're going nowhere with the current set-up whilst Ratten is in charge.
