Advice for today
I believe that we can win
I hope that we can win
I am sure we will win
but just in case (words to live by):

Re: Advice for today
It's an important game in the context of us gaining credibility as a finals capable side.
I didn't really consider our loss to the Dees as a failure in that regard solely because of the clear and evident class gap between our sides however the Cats aren't in the same class as the Dees even though they are considered a contender to Melbourne's chances of going back-to-back.
Whereas a win against the Cats feels achievable and almost shall I dare to say very quietly, expected. And this is possibly on the basis we are now looking to the progress of Freo this season who seem to have catipulted past us for the time being.
I'm guessing many of us are feeling fidgety and anxious today.
It's a very important game for the list and its development.

Re: Advice for today
I am sick of the Cats, we have not been able to get the 'W' against them for many years but today is the day to shine and stamp our name as a top 8 team.
The cats can never do wrong according to the media, geez even if Scott drops one they believe it smells like roses!
They are right for the taking and on our home turf so let's take the game on and be in their faces all day with pressure as they will try and play possession football.
Let's also hope that Selwood is not given an armchair ride with ducking frees and that Hawkins gets pinged for his trademark hands in the back marks.
I want to sing the song at the game today!

Re: Advice for today
if we lose today I'll be very dissapointed..it will mean our hopes for a flag this year will be over as far as I'm concerned.
I know the Dees are the ones but if we were to beat the Cats it would give us hope of at least contending.
A loss today and Asta la Vista
signed Glass half empty

If we play attacking football and players running and overlapping for the handball we will win
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Advice for today
Well of course we shouldn’t be doing only that. But this week we have a tall forward line (too tall IMO) and we need to get the ball deep. No team in modern AFL can hope to find a clear target every time they go forward. So sometimes we will need to kick to a congested area and put some pressure on. Yes, there’ll be some intercept marks. So what.
I’d far rather that than the futile chipping around we saw in the first 1.5 quarters last week. A turnover while we’re faffing about with the ball 70m out from our goal is more dangerous to us than an intercept mark in our goal square.
The endless criticism of “long bombs to the goal square” is overly simplistic IMO.

Confidence & belief, don't show any cracks. If Geelong get a roll on get in their faces, let them know we are there to win.

I thought this post was about the SMS the club sent me at 1245 AEST
I live in Perth so I can't get to the game, but kudos to the club for getting the msg out there

Re: Advice for today
I wouldn't be getting that extreme. The reality is the club is trending in the right direction however an even greater reality is our list is still short of some quality so we are still a couple of years way from being a top four side and contender.
In a perfect world said quality would come partly from some of our young recruits and partly from some more success with recruiting.
Having said that you really get a sense that us die hards understand what a win today would mean in terms of verifying we are on the right path. The players would feel it too I recon.

King can mark one on one, meher baba wrote: ↑Sat 14 May 2022 1:11pmWell of course we shouldn’t be doing only that. The endless criticism of “long bombs to the goal square” is overly simplistic IMO.
Membrey can mark one on one,
Marshall can mark one on one,
Sharman can mark one on one,
even Higgins can mark one on one if his opponent is not so tall he gets monstered like last week.
The criticism of long bombs to the goal square is INACCURATE.
The problem is long bombs to a pack of players in the goal square.
The goal square belongs to the KING.
STAY OUT
If Geelong flood players into the goal square STAY OUT
For every player that Geelong floods into the goal square there is a free player who can mark one out let alone if he is free.
Kick the ball to that player.

Re: Advice for today
Like the OP indicates, all the rationalising in the world doesn't take away the pain when your tribe loses.
And I hate losing to the smug bastards from Geelong...Selwood ducking his head, Hawkins infringing and then getting free kicks , Dangerfield just being an all round self satisfied prick...
This is our biggest game of the year and a chance to get the monkey wearing blue and white stripes off our back.
C'mon Saints

He started his career in 2007 and Geelong have missed finals once in that time.
He's so used to being successful that he thinks he's entitled to it. What I dislike about him the most is that he's all smiles when things go his way, but he's a whinging little bitch when they don't.
