Set Shots for Goal
King, Membrey and Gresham all had set shots for goal within easy kicking distance and none from a very difficult angle.
Each tried an around-the -corner shot and all missed.
I am confident all three would have scored goals with a normal drop punt shot.

Re: Set Shots for Goal
This does my head in !
I cannot understand that a professional footballer chooses to do this .
I know that modern footballers feel more comfortable kicking across their bodies but as professionals they ought to know that the more variables you add decreases your chance of a positive outcome.
King should of kicked 5 today . Someone has to get him to stop twirling the ball in his hand as he walks in .
Has the potential to be a 5 goal + a game player for us , but this will never happen until he gets a solid set shot routine

Include King in that list also, it was horrible to watch. I hope the coaches address it during the week.

Yes, it really pisses me off when they do that. If it works then they can do what they like, but when it doesn’t then they should be told to not do it again.

Re: Set Shots for Goal
Did Higgins too?
Yes I think you are right.
Higgins not Gresham.

Re: Set Shots for Goal
Doesn't bother me. Not the best execution today, but it's a simple kick that opens the goals.
Same thing with kicking bananas on the preferred foot instead of attempting a straight kick with the non-preferred. For some it's the easier kick, so go for it.
Some people just like whinging about something unconventional. Hird didn't have a left foot, kicked everything on his right even when it was hard, still hit the targets so who gives a sh*t how he does it?

Re: Set Shots for Goal
Whilst I think most of these attempts should have been drop punts, it was the spinning of the ball in hands that frustrated me.
I'm probably being an old curmudgeon, but none of them had a decent hold of the ball going into their run up.
I think you should have a firm grip and positioning of the ball in your hand regardless of how it is kicked. Just so you have some certainty in how the ball will drop to your foot.
It was spin, spin , spin, run and kick.
But I'm getting old, so my glasses may be rose tinted.

Serisously though, I saw Plugger snap plenty... not from set shots though, and no bananas. But I remember the big fella snapping from 50m out on the boundary line, went through above the posts. Haven't seen anything like it since.
He's still criminally underrated only because he played for St Kilda.

A definite no there.
