No trades

Post: # 1930869Post B.M »

A bit disappointing

The trade period is an opportunity to improve your list

The Stk list is not good enough atm

The question is
Why will we be better in 2022?

We were bold in the 2019 trade period
And did well again in the 2020 tp

We are a middling list - not a good place to be IMO

Sometimes you gotta risk it for the biscuit!!!

I feel StK are so worried about media and fan perception they react to it!!!

Geelong don’t GAF!!! They are about winning
People smash them for being too old
What do they do
Lose Clarke at 21yo
Bring in Ceglar 30yo

I disagree.

The club is still a few years off, IMO, and doesn't need to be loading up on more overpriced mature-age players.

Xerri looked like a good back-up ruck but wasn't worth being reamed over.

Is it a good move because the club made it??

What if the club brought in a good 23yo player?

What good 23 year old player should we have brought in? What should we have given up? If there is no players that are going to move the needle, is there a point in making a apples for apples move just for changes sake?

What's the point of trading for the sake of trading. Hopefully they get the 2 NGA players and a good top 10 player.

What makes the list better than 2021?

Why would you fail with a list, and continue with the same list - save for a few draftees that are unlikely to play.

Maybe they should have went hard for Ladhams
Could’ve done the same deal as Sydney?

I think it was stated early on that we were not looking at Ladhams because his salary was too high and we didn’t have the draft hand that would allow us to get him if we wanted. So you would be happy to downgrade from 9 to 16 and give up a future 3rd?

You are getting 3 good draft picks.

Give up trades & dollars to get GOPs just so we can say our list has changed. That's a soggy, stale biscuit in my eyes. There was nothing of value that we could afford. I'm glad we kept our powder dry.

Improvements will come from our under 25s, our fitness and an improved run with injuries. We finished where we deserved with our injuries and our poor conditioning in 2021.

Talia, Ladhams, Xerri would not have helped.

This is the first time we've kept our future second since we've been allowed to trade it.

I'm not that disappointed & I'm glad they stuck to the offer for Xerri IMO not worth trading our future second pick I would rather keep Hunter than do that trade & that looks like a real possibility now

Yep agree improvement will come from

Paton
Gresham

Massive ins.

Billings and Marshall playing without injury.

King third year in.

Three highly rated kids also join the list.

Higgins Butler Membrey improving as they play another season together.

Highmore and Sharman a full pre season

Jones Crouch full years.

Any ruck options in the lower grades that could be an upgrade over Hunter?

Abbott >>>>> Hunter >>>>>>>> ???

That goes for CHB too or do we rookie Clav?

Paton and Gresham will come in

Others will get injured

That’s AFL footy

Is the list going to contend in the next 4 years whilst
Steele, Marshall, Jones, Membrey, Crouch, Billings, Hill, Howard, Wilkie
Are at their peak

And king coming into his prime?

Melbourne finished 9th last year, didn’t trade in any players and won a premiership…..

We have seen many of our players mature and develop after we traded them in the past ... perhaps we can expect the coaching staff to do their job and improve the players we already have for a change ... as well as keeping our list on the paddock as mentioned, and learn more about each others positioning etc.

Exactly - we have large juicy KINGfish & a tasty SH(X)ERRIfish on the menu in next years trade period and plenty of improvement to come from youngsters in Ming, Higgins, Clark, Coffield, Sharman, Bytel, Connolly, Byrnes, Paton, Highmore plus we are going to bring three 18yos + Max Heath.

Surprised Ladhams went so cheap - a swap of 1st rounders and 3rd rounder to Port - so around pick 40 I am guessing

Bring on the Draft

It’s about getting quality in or at least value for what you want.

I for one am glad that we didn’t fork out a second rounder for Xerri

My sense is that there really wasn’t too much quality on offer

We pbly have someone in mind for our first round pick... hopefully that kid you liked BM.

After that it’s getting our academy picks

Move Hannerbery on next year, have a crack at Bing.

Disappointing we didn’t get a ruck to replace Hunter but still... no point swinging for the sake of it
