The coming of the king
I know it was a loss but I'll still have a rhyming ping
To celebrate the coming of the St Kilda marking king
Composure and consistency are qualities we still lack
We have players who pick and choose when it's time to have a crack
We need a team of warriors to become the real deal
Who for every minute of every game play like men of steele

Re: The coming of the king
Yesterday was the day he overtook Ben King in my mind. Through injury or lack of Ben got the early lead but yesterday was confirmation to everyone Max > Ben.

An unpopular opinion maybe - but - please - please - please Max - back it up again next weekGoose is king wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 10:02am Yesterday was the day he overtook Ben King in my mind. Through injury or lack of Ben got the early lead but yesterday was confirmation to everyone Max > Ben.
Needs to for his confidence
Max has kicked 30 for the season - however 11 have come against West Coast
He needs to do it again next week to bury the Yips.

Re: The coming of the king
He should have had 8 yesterday. He went for an unlikely pass in the first quarter from 50m when the goal square was free. And Ben Long tried to kick that freak goal from the impossible angle when he could have just given it to Max.

Re: The coming of the king
He is a significantly better-contested mark than his brother Ben.
Ben is better at leading, take more uncontested marks.
if Max can learn to lead and get the easy goals Ben does he will be a much much better player.

Re: The coming of the king
There is another King coming, very very soon as we see world events as never before, and his name is King Jesus. He would have each one of us to look up and open our hearts to Him. He is our blessed hope!

Re: The coming of the king
His kicking, apart from one out on on the full, was great, looked very balanced and confident. Great game, so good to watch, but they didn't defend well against him.

Yeah, they looked so pure of the boot.
Gotta give him and the club credit for the work on his goal kicking

Re: The coming of the king
His numbers are actually bizarre
Games 35
Marks 134
Contested Marks 72
So to average 2 contested marks in his first 35 games is significant
But the bizarre part is that 54% of his marks are contested
I doubt that any other player is close to that
What he needs to do, is increase the number of uncontested marks.
If he can average his 2 contested mark, maybe even 3 and average 4 uncontested marks
He will be a serious player
Who could average 3.5 goals per game!

Re: The coming of the king
He should have banged one from 50 around the mark but other than that he was very good.
Its a simple game at times. Leap, catch ball, kick ball straight.

Seeing as though he has learned to kick for goal It wouldn’t surprise me to see him take on and conquer this skill next.Viscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 2:27pmYeah god help the rest of the comp when he learns to take uncontested marks.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 2:14pm His numbers are actually bizarre

Re: The coming of the king
If you fancy a stroll down amnesia lane....
Max King was born 7 days after this great game.
And 1 day before this horror one (although in the clip we're doing 'ok').
Max very nearly avenged that very first and evidently stinging loss (and game) as a Saints supporter off his own boot exactly 21 years and 1 day later.
Alas he's got a long list of avenging to choose from and work through from those years... but he's got a lot of time ahead of him to do it.
And oh yeah, playing both those games in their last season together and at the Saints were number 12 Shane Wakelin, and number 15 his twin Darryl Wakelin (a number which some speculate may soon be available...).

Re: The coming of the king
All those marks, none were kicked on his head. Instruction during the week must have been to kick in front and let Maxie run to the ball drop. Stopping him would be freed as a block.
Let's hope this continues. AFL crying out for a 100 goal big forward.

Re: The coming of the king
+1
That first big high mark (on the Twitter that kosi posted) was taken on the 50 m line. I think it was early in the second quarter
He executed a nice drop punt that would have sailed at least 55 metres and basically dead centre of the goals. Very impressive!!
The other thing I wanted to add (not sure if it had been mentioned) was that our boys have finally worked out how to kick it to him
You have to place the footy in front and let him run onto it. Give it air so the big fella can jump and reach up with those huge testicles (as Jack Dyer used to say)
