Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
Alistair Clarkson is stepping down as Hawks coach at the end of 2022 with Sam Mitchell taking over.
Will we ask the question as I think Ratts' contract ends at the same time?

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
I reckon he’ll take on a less stressful role and become director of coaching somewhere
Could be with one of his apprentices. My first bet at this stage would be Stewy Dew at the Suns
Maybe Leon Cameron and the Giants or….
He might also want to come to St Kilda and join the Hawthorn contingency of Wrath, Roughy and Ratts
I don’t think he’ll want to be senior coach anywhere in 2023.

What better way to prove how good you are than to get us a couple of flags. It may actually be proof he is the messiah. Seems only the second coming will get us a flag.

Why not just go to the media and get paid twice as much for only a fraction of the stress??

Wasn't that going to be Beveridge before he got Footscray job?

I think it was, yes.SaintJohn1956 wrote: ↑Wed 07 Jul 2021 11:58amWasn't that going to be Beveridge before he got Footscray job?
It’s an interesting one. We do know that Ratts has had a good working relationship with Clarko in the past.

Yeah right. Keep dreaming

Re: Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
we are the basketcase of the comp
he'd be coming to us for eff all money
(given his current wage + future soft cap tightenings)
so
it could/would only be
coz he has the passion to prove a point
(or improve on a point)
and knows we are the vehicle to do it via
otherwise
he's no chance coming to us ... imo
pity ... if he came to support Ratts
we'd be in the Win Zone
on momentum alone

Dare to dream but his time is up as a coach. At least for the time being. Give it a year or two and if he can’t get a media gig then he may be back

Re: Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
I doubt it, like most coaches I reckon he will want a break after years at Hawthorn. Why would he want to leave a financially well off and successful club to come to the Saints. Ratts has some different ideas, but his passion for the club and abilities to change when things arent working, says he is the right man for the job.Jacks Back wrote: ↑Wed 07 Jul 2021 8:31am Alistair Clarkson is stepping down as Hawks coach at the end of 2022 with Sam Mitchell taking over.

Will be at Collingwood next year or Carlton the year after.
Gold Coast will also throw the kitchen sink at him

He actually "resigned" the morning of his first day at the club when offered the Dogs senior coach role.

The Gold Coast. No point in going to Carlton or Collingwood. There is nothing to prove there. The AFL needs him up north.

Ratts to Carlton after we win the flag this year and next. Wouldn’t put it past Carlton not to make a bid. Many there may have thought he was roughly judged and pushed out of town…And after our flags.
Then, in 2023, the old Hawk might want to try St Kilda. Wouldn’t he be a good match?

Sadly I agree.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 07 Jul 2021 1:54pm The Gold Coast. No point in going to Carlton or Collingwood. There is nothing to prove there. The AFL needs him up north.
They’ll pay him trillions …as the subsidised Gold Coast get yet another freebie.. Hope it fails..Only thing is Clarko is a bit of a traditionalist, might not go for Gold Coast. He’d be more interested in helping poor ol North or even us.

Much bigger basket cases then us.
Gee Essendon has won less games than us and they talk about them like they are top 6.

Re: Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
i reckon i could write a good letter to Clarko
pointing out that our basketcaseness is grander
and greater than any of those usurpers
on your list
we'd have to be on a global list of teams proficient in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in most things we do
and we've been consistently doing it for nearly 200 years
probably cemented in the top 4
our fuckedupness should be an easy sell Shirley

Re: Clarkson stepping down - Stepping up at Saints?
First task when he started at Hawthorn was move on the players who could not kick. Several (i'd say 6) of our regulars would be nervous.
