The only thing this club …

Post: # 1907529Post Saintmatt »

… has to do for the rest of this year is play all of Clavarino, Highmore, Bytel, Byrnes & Connolly.

So, against the 15th placed team - let’s drop Clavarino and have Connolly and Bytel emergencies BUT play Lonie, Long and Hunter.

Oh yeah - and keep that ball butchering fuckw1t Dunstan in the team.

Get in the bin you absolute sh1tcarter of a match committee. Flat out embarrassing.

Nope. He’s named as an Emergency.

My hatred for this Match Committee is fast approaching the level I had for Cho’s dribblers who selected Weller 44 more times than he deserved and put up with Jack Newnes 150 straight games of lazy mediocrity.

Fvck - can’t we just play the only decent kids we have - against a bottom team - to find out whether they’re any good?!?!

The signal of a Selection committee that has lost its nerve.
Had a chance to take some initiative here but we have defaulted to a conservative formula.
Almost guaranteed not to work

It’s not about the result FFS. Will you feel better if we beat Adelaide? I sure as s*** won’t. That should be a team you absolutely obliterate … like North (which we didn’t).

So, in the absence of that … why not find out which kids can and cannot play? What are you going to learn about Dunstan this week? That he’s a pitiful excuse for an AFL footballer by foot? That Long is undisciplined ? That Lonie has tricks to burn but is hopeless defending because he’s a midget with no body mass to stick a tackle?

As for Paul Hunter … spare me.

Vomit display by Match Committee

One can only think they know Ryder in heat can’t ruck all day plus they ma6 want him forward alongside King at times to prov8de a chop out to do that , sadly as I thought he was lookin* ok but can’t play ruck, Clav comes out.....maybe Battle finally gets to have a crack at CHB ??
Bytel has me stuffed obvious Seb replacement.
I for one am in play kids camp......do not care about result tbh
Finish bottom 3 and a top 3 pick is in the offing and the top end this draft meant to have some juicy options....

The team needs balance and the kids need support.
However we need to get games into the kids. Give them a chance. Dispose of the top up rubbish that will never make it (kent frawley etc)
Connelly, Bytel (must) clararino, and any others that could be future players.
Great chance to get a dozen games into them.

He’s not the future I disagree
He showed again last week in important moments he can’t cut it at AFL level
Shame cause he’s a good size can win his ball just hacks it too often

Which says everything about why we’re an abomination. If Dunstan is your first choice depth player - God help us. Can’t kick and is now hand balling behind his targets. High quality. Thank god it’s his last year.

If you’d rather play Dunstan than develop Bytel or see what Connolly might be like at the level … then, with all due respect - you can formally join the meth heads currently sitting on Match Committee

I often wonder why a professional organisation with full time employees can't improve their employees skills over many years, especially with all the specialist staff
a club employs, mind boggling really.

Clavarino made a promising debut and should be given at least 3 games.

I think there is a lot of confirmation bias going on with Dunstan. When you're looking for him to miss a kick it stands out when it happens, but you're then ignoring the other 20+ touches.

Sinclair turned it over twice in 2 minutes, Hill turned it over (best disposal in the comp?), Ross missed a goal from the goal square...

Dunstan had the same amount of 'clangers' as Steele, Ross, Butler and Sinclair.

He more than deserves his spot ATM, if we had a full list to choose from then maybe he wouldn't be in the 22, but we don't have that luxury right now.

I agree with your last point - he certainly deserves his spot on form and he’s elevated his standing (in my eyes at least) from certain delisting to good enough to stay on the list. Though IMO he doesn’t get a look in yet in a full strength team.

With regards to the players you’ve listed - Sinclair, Steele and Hill etc he’s not in the same position as them.
Whether here or elsewhere, they’ve all played to a much higher standard more consistently over a longer period of time and have comfortably established themselves as AFL grade players even if they have bad patches of form

Dunstan is a player that didn’t progress like he would have and hasn’t been a regular in the team over years for various reasons.
The onus is on him to prove himself to be good enough to stand alongside the key top22 players at this point in his career and not just be mildly better than newbies like Bytel or Byrnes who would look like having a lot more development on them.

In fairness however, Dunstan does appear to have elevated his game this season. He’s getting a lot more ball and running games out a better then he was three years ago so I’m happy enough to see him keep his place and fight for spot...
But he’s literally looking like he’s just got to the level we all thought he should have reached 3 years ago

Jury is still out as to whether he’s still worth investing in IMO

Here's the thing Dud - this is not confirmation bias with Dunstan (and I do know what that means in a psych sense) - it's where the Dunstan mistakes so often happen. Quite frankly - Ross has been terrific this year but despite the ppl on here who'll gush over his B & F's - he's also had rubbish disposal by foot and it didn't really surprise me that much that he missed from the edge of the goal square. But that hurts proportionally less than a corridor kick or missed handball to the opposition at half back when the backs have all split to overlap and are then out of shape.

I'd argue that the clangers of others you mention were when under pressure or biting off a bit much and risky (Webster is the king of this but he's trying to create and presumably has a mandate). Dunstan's regularly are not - he's just a terrible kick that costs time and time again. You cannot have players in your team in modern footy - where ball retention is everything - that cannot hit a target. Especially midfielders.

For the record - I have never heard any one ever regard Hill as the best disposal in the comp - I suspect that's your own confirmation bias coming through.

As for deserving his spot - that's your opinion - but I'd much rather LEARN what Bytel and Connolly have than see what I already know Dunstan to have. Winning by 4 goals over Adelaide (or losing) with Dunstan (and Long and Lonie) in the team is a waste of a game.
