Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
Four selections, who will we take:
Looking at our list we could use a couple of mids, a ruck, and a key forward.
I reckon we'll take:
1. Nathan Freeman
2. Paddy McCartin
3. Matthew Cruiser
4. Billy Hartung

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

If u believe the boss we’ll only be taking one player, and I hope it’s a young bloke with potential.

Interested in the versatility brought by Cruiser, versatile: can be a sickly sweet aphrodisiac or a leather clad, studded one drink I'm anyone's type. Fore!

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
If we're looking for a ruckman with plenty of upside, hard to go past MAX HEATH.....could be a beauty
Max Heath
Age: 18
Height: 204cm
Weight: 94kg
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Position: Ruck/forward
Heath is seen as one of the best chances in the mid-season draft, attracting no shortage of interest from AFL clubs. He was a late draft bolter last year who was interviewed by six clubs, despite having only played one NAB League game in 2019 and none in 2020. The interest has only risen since after a strong start to the year. A very mobile big man with an “intimidating” presence in the ruck, Heath is strong in the air and is also remarkably good at gathering the ball at ground level given his size. Before last season was wiped out due to COVID-19, Heath was seen as a likely starting ruck option for Vic Metro at the national championships. He had 21 disposals and 31 hitouts in his first game for the Dragons this season and 17 disposals and 25 hitouts in his second game. He’s also a fierce competitor, having laid 11 tackles across those first two matches.

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
Lethlean says 'nah....we just want one, no more than that, as long as they fit our plan; we don't want someone that just plays this year, not fair to them'
So...the club has grabbed Fumble Bum McK, Wood, Frawley, who are just topping up for 2021
And they're fully embarrassed about those insane decisions, now they're scared about a repeat.
Geezus

Problem is if we knock off North, that our pick will possibly be too late. Though of the rucks he is probably third in line behind Edwards and Moyle.
Depending on how the other games go we may be as late as pick 8.

WTF are we only selecting one?
Select 4 and keep whoever shows a bit, let go who does not
It’s only a 6 month trial

Insane approach...why wouldn't you take the full complement?

Maybe they are faking so they get who they want with their second pick?

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
We desparately need a young ruckman, but I believe the club are of the opinion they take too long to develop. I hope they take a risk and take a kid like Max Heath with their 1st pick who is the type of kid who could pinch hit early on if he had to. The next pick/s as I posted previously would like any of the following 2nd round Charlie Dean, Darby Hipwell, Chance Doultree or Joel Trudgeon, 3rd round Xavier Maher, Luke Smith, Patrick Parnell or Jack Hayes.

Max Heath goes ok in the ruck but struggles to get a kick and is a bit slow
Sound familiar

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
Have you watched him play? I have watched several of his games this year and he is much more mobile than Longer. He got over 20 disposals in his first 2 games was taking strong marks and hitting the score board. Games 3 & 4 he was carrying an injury and was quieter but apparently he blitzed his school game last weekend.

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
Whoever might be a good prospect, the Saints will make some wacky pick that will come to nothing. A bit dubious about decisions made by this club at the moment.

Yep, so I'm willing to bet that that's the way they will go.

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
These may not get taken at all, but my Likes:
Bailey Chamberlain 20, mid 179 (West Adel)
Kye Declase 24, def 195 (Werr)
Brayden Crossley 22, ruck/fwd 198 (G Coast)
Teia Miles 25, mid 180 (Haw/Will)
Jarrod Garlett 25, (GC/Car/WAFL) - likely goes to WC Eagles, Edit: now they've opened up 2 places
Why are the Saints saying only 1 selection - when they have 3-4 spots

Re: Mid-season draft: closest to the pin
AFL site says we've notified the AFL thst we're using ONE pick.
As at 11am AEST
AFL also reckons Freeman is on the Tigers' radar.
Good luck with that, 40 touches in a VFL game but according to a poster on here, the kicks were all tentative and lacked distance, as if he didn't want to overextend thr legs?
And it's alleged he lost his speed too.
