Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.
This guy never gets a mention.
At 195cm and very athletic, he has been at the club for 3 years and is now 23 years old. IMO he has shown some promising signs in his 3 AFL games. Can play key position back and forward.
Any chance of a game in 2021?

Re: Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.
Definitely not. Played games and was exposed. Seems like a nice kid but isn’t up to it. Didn’t get a look in when Carlisle was out last year and certainly won’t play up forward. Starts behind King, Battle, Marshall, Ryder, Membrey, Carlisle/Frawley (whoever they’d rather send forward) and Wood.
IMO a call has already been made on him and not recently. Will be shocked if he gets another contract
If he’s playing in 2021 then we’re in serious trouble

I thought he was alright in the five games he played. No idea how he developed last year but I think they were hoping he would be a Dougal Howard type big athletic defender.
I'd like to see him get another shot.

I'd like to see him get two more games at least. Just to be sure, to be sure. Sorry, I'll see myself out.

Re: Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.
It must be difficult for a young man with a hurling background to come to a foreign country & play a game he knew next to nothing about.
Add to that he’s had injuries along the way.
Hopefully he gets a good run at it this year and his development can be fast tracked, otherwise not a good outcome!

Clearly not a favourite son amongst the fans here, but I'm with you Gershwin. I'd definitely persevere.

Re: Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.
Forgotten for a reason. He was so far back in the queue for tall defenders they tried him forward, with some limited success at the lower level.
He’s got a great attitude, is a real competitor, but lacks the footy ability to be a good at the elite level. Just a handy VFL player.
The game he played which sticks in my mind is when Peter Wright (GOP) monstered him a bit a couple of years ago.
I would also query the 195 he doesn’t look 6’5” in real life. The G train was that tall and he looked tall in real life. Roo looked taller than Darragh and he was listed as 193. Frawley looks bigger and he’s 193. I would guess his height as about the same as Wood and Highmore - probably 192

Its hard to write off a player after just 5 games, but Joyce looks to be behind far too many others. Hopefully he can tear up the VFL and push for a spot!

Well thought of down Moorabbin way, despite what his detractors say.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Wed 17 Feb 2021 2:43pm I thought he was alright in the five games he played. No idea how he developed last year but I think they were hoping he would be a Dougal Howard type big athletic defender.

With the injury to Paton, you would assume he gets a look in. If he doesn’t, what does that tell you?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.
Put him in the midfield, could battle Mason Wood as our next Nat Fife style big bodied midfielder.
