Looks like the Giants are looking at bringing in Savage.

This really could be his lifeline for a couple of more years in the game. He will go well up there.

This means that St Kilda will not be able to move Savage to the rookie list.
Try to do so by delisting him he gets taken by GWS as a delisted free agent or they take him ahead of St Kilda in the rookie draft.

St Kilda has to offer him a contract if they wish to keep him.
If he wants to go to GWS he simply says no forcing St Kilda to delist him.
He then goes to GWS as a delisted free agent.
It will probably come down to, is he prepared to move to Sydney for few years.

I remember him breaking his leg at training at Seaford a few yrs ago.

Someone posted on here that a journo had parked up on the nearby freeway off-ramp to watch training and saw Shane getting carried off.

Savage has been one of those players (in my opinion) that has a big heart and gives 100%, and walks off spent, having given everything.

Hope he gets a chance to keep playing seniors, wherever he ends up

Can still add value to AFL level as shown in 2020 when he came in and performed well.

Good solid C grade AFL player.

I hope he gets an opportunity at GWS and gets a couple of years of senior footy.

I don't know what sort of coin he would be on & probably not in the best 22 but IMO he is a very solid back up if needed. I know you can't keep everyone so I suppose if we want to keep him & he want's to stay we have to offer him a contract or else he's a free agent

Good luck to him and I hope they take him, he has been a solid player for us over the years but unfortunately he’s behind Coffield, Clark, Paton ,Webster, Geary and probably Ross next year all looking to consolidate their spot in the back six.

Makes sense for him. He probably walks into their best 22 with Williams and Shaw gone. He'd be a backup competing with quite few others with us. Still would be happy to keep him though. Shame we couldn't have orchestrated a minor pick upgrade

Savage is good to come in when Long gets suspended.

Read the article and he would walk into the back 6 that doesn’t include Williams, Shaw and Corr. Phil Davis is finished too

Savage does not have a contract with us and others do.

So even though Savage may be a better player to keep he will be let go to GWS.

Good fit for Savage as he will be first 22 in that backline at present, and he will go well there. Gives him another 2 or 3 years to earn some coin.

He was a good player for us and a shame to let him go, and moreso as we will get nothing for him. But I wish him well.

At least he played 100 games in case there are any father sons.

Savage clearly warrants a position on our list, as exemplified by him coming in for our semi final against Richmond. He is easily ahead of Webster when both are fit. With Coffield and Hunter pushing into the midfield, and Robbo probably done, I see him as pushing for a spot in the 22.

If he chooses to move to GWS for better terms and job security, I wish him well. He has given his all since coming over from the Hawks and has played a 100 games for us.

He is probably just a victim of circumstances with list sizes and salary cap only being confirmed today, before Friday's first list lodgement.

Let's hope he stays on.

The saints should let him have the final say on this.
He knows he won't be in the best 22 if he stays but if he wants to try his luck at GWS the saints should just let him go as a delisted free agent.
He has been a great servant to the club and deserves our respect and consideration if that is his wish.

It would be nice to keep Savage on the list to cover for Long who keeps getting rubbed out.

Always thought Savage looks like Michael Walker (the jockey), just a bit taller.

Would have liked to have exploited that booming kick of his to kick more goals.

Yes he turned the ball over alot, but I dont always believe it was bad decisions. The ball just seemed to take ages to get to the target and therefore players were out positioned. Maybe it was because the ball was traveling 60m instead of 40m

Shaw is 34 years, 11 months. So 35 next season.
Savage is 29 years 10 months = 5 years younger

and most likely cheaper than Shaw, contract wise

Savage appears to have retained his pace.

Shaw though never quick looked like he was running through quicksand on bone spurs last year.

Had the Cowboy Neale running style though considerably slower.
