Re: Delistings Confirmed
We must have a mature aged ruckman buried somewhere? Unless the rumours of the lad from Richmond Coleman-Jones are true? Perhaps Wright from GCS.

Re: Delistings Confirmed
I know Bell is very skinny, but given the supposed huge wraps on him by the club it at first sight seems strange. But it really just reinforces that the training/scratch match stories from the club are more for marketing reasons than being genuine.
With rucks I have long thought now that it is much better rather than take a kid to pick up a ruckman who has shown a bit at VFL/SANFL/WAFL (ie Marshall, though he was actually recruited more as a forward) or another AFL Club. With rucks it just takes ages for them to 1/get physically mature enough and 2/ to lean ruck craft.
Jack Bell may well still make it, but he is 3 years or more away.
What we need is a ruckman capable of AFL level football now. Paddy was great this year, but will most likely only have 1 or 2 seasons left in him and that will most likely be achieved if we do not play Paddy every week. So we need someone to allow Paddy or Marshall to be spelled, or to replace them if injured. Abbott was simply not good enough.
Austin was always a strange pick up. Not physically strong enough to play key position which is what we ten needed, and with Robbo on the flank he was not going to displace him (when we gained him we did not know Robbo would have health issues. With Coffield now a lock, there is no place for Austin.
Langlands I think is a bit stiff. Showed a bit, but this season stopped him from proving himself at Sandy. He could quite possibly be as good or better than Kent for example.
Mayo was always probably a bit too slight for the third forward role, and with Membrey and Battle on the books was not going to displace them. Doing an ACL was just the final nail.

Langlands stiff in my opinion. Looked a good size and good mover.

Of course, until lists are finalised no-one is truly de-listed.

Re: Delistings Confirmed
While Langlands looked impressive physically, his kicking under AFL pressure looked pretty poor in the few runs he got. We really need to be better in that space. Yes there are a few senior players who have the same issues but let's not develop anymore. Skill, skill and more skill, is what we need.

No surprises.
Maybe 3-4 more also heading out.

Re: Delistings Confirmed
Gave up two second round picks for Austin?? Is my memory correct? Showed a bit early, but got a couple of big injuries then Brown and Carlisle denied him a spot. Timing was very bad for him. It was Richardson who was keen to get him from Port. Turned out to be a stinker of a trade in the end. Draft picks down the drain

Re: Delistings Confirmed
Savage likely to move on for more opportunity. Parker and Mckenzie will be nervous, as will Dunstan. The club has indicated that it wants another midfielder. Dunstan will be saying...."err....what about me??"

Re: Delistings Confirmed
I looked it up before to jog my memory, was our third for Austin and Port's fourth round. So not a huge amount paid.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Sun 11 Oct 2020 6:36pm Gave up two second round picks for Austin?? Re: Delistings Confirmed
I guess we more than made up for it with our trades with Port for Ryder and Howard.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Sun 11 Oct 2020 6:36pm Gave up two second round picks for Austin?? Is my memory correct? Not many ruckmen out there. If we've got one lined up, I can't imagine who it could be

They must still have faith in Clavarino, hope he shows a bit next season.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Delistings Confirmed
Had a bit of a think about depth came up with
DEFENDERS
Key defenders: Dougal Howard, Jake Carlisle, Callum Wilkie, Dylan Roberton, Oscar Clavarino,Darragh Joyce.
General defenders: Ben Long, Nick Coffield, Jarryn Geary, Ben Paton, Shane Savage, Daniel McKenzie, Jimmy Webster, Leo Connolly
MIDFIELDERS
Midfielders: Jack Steele, Hunter Clark, Dan Hannebery, Brad Hill, Zak Jones, Seb Ross, Jack Sinclair, Ed Phillips, Luke Dunstan, Jack Bytel, Ryan Byrnes.
Ruckmen: Rowan Marshall, Paddy Ryder, Sam Alabakis
FORWARDS
Midfielder/forwards: Jack Billings, Jade Gresham, Nick Hind.
General forwards: Jack Lonie, Dan Butler, Dean Kent, Matthew Parker
Key forwards: Max King, Josh Battle, Tim Membrey, Jonathon Marsh.
Shows where pretty light on for ruckman and key forwards other areas we can always improve on quality but in terms of numbers pretty close to what you would expect.
Thoughts ?

Re: Delistings Confirmed
Does the coach see Battle long term as forward or a defender? He's splayed better in defence, but he's shown enough up forward to suggest that he can do it. He's still very young

Re: Delistings Confirmed
Looked great in the back half on Saturday, bit equally good marking in the forward 50.
He is shaping as an absolute ripper. A genuine smart swing man.
If he is OK with that role he will play every game and have a big influence on our tilt at the flag.
Nee!
