So will we play finals?

Post: # 1863043Post The_Dud »

I was very confident a few weeks ago, not as anymore...

4 games to go, 2 wins inside the eight (tho played an extra game) so we probably need 2 wins to secure a spot.

Melbourne game is a huge one, definite 8 point game, I have no idea how it’s going to go looking at both teams recent formline.

So who’s confident? Are we going to make it or not?

Finals yes, top 4 and prelim no.

Brisbane, Geelong, WCE are ahead of us. Port and Richmond 50/50.

Yes. So what do we lack to go deep? I think when the pressure is white hot we fumble a bit too much. As pissed as I am about losing today we have some bloody good young players

Yes, we play 3 sides outside the 8 in the last 4 games.

We nearly knocked off a top 4 side on their home deck in front of 13k fans. We weren't that great for big chunks of the game either so we are still going pretty good.

We should beat Melbourne this week if we play fast footy but they will be desperate too. Still a tough game.

Beat the Dees and then yes.

If not and it then becomes a maybe including just whatever other games other teams win.

It could get down to needing to knock off GWS in the last round to play finals.

No doubt about that
What happens when we get there is the question

Good players and game style well coached , fit players and healthy list it’s our time hope we can make the most of this opportunity.
We get a bit lost when the opposition take our run off us Geelong ,Brisbane and Collingwood
Need to have an answer
Go Saints

I'm confident.
Three of our losses have been by a goal or less.
We'll beat Melbourne and Hawthorn. I think we'll come out and hit Melbourn like a freight train next Saturday.
We'll beat the Hawks too.
GWS are haveing a 'mare of a season and I'm sure we'll get over them in the final round.

With a % of over 114 and 11 wins we'll play finals.

Then it's game on.

GWS getting belted by WC.

GWS are still 8 points and 20% behind us but have a game in hand.

A few games next week favour our situation.

I’m loving the confidence, it’s hard to accurately gauge where we’re at being so close IMO.

If we win one final this year I would call that a massive success 👍

If GWS don’t make finals I hope we can shake the tree and get one of Kelly, Whitfield, Haynes or Williams

Were looking a bit tired & it's been a hectic season & IMO we might make it but were not up to matching it with the big boys yet. I hope we can get there just to play in the finals but in reality were not a real threat ATM give it a a couple of years & who knows.

We still lack midfield A listers. We tried, Hanners would be out there having a crack if he could and he's great value for on field leadership....but sadly he's past it.

I hate to say it but Hill is a bust so far as well. Very smart, can direct play, but doesn't get it enough....blame team mates or out of position, too lazy or uninterested to lay body on the line...somethings different between Freo Hill and Saint Hill....he just doesnt seem to have the passion.

Desperately need an inside bull and outside gun with wheels.
2 mids minimum.

In defense we need another big Boy with speed and smarts.

I reckon that'd take us there.

Yes to finals - out in straights

Am not so sure.

Only teams that scare me ATM are Geelong, WCE and Collingwood.

Everybody else we can beat on the day.

Now Collingwood aren’t a certainty to make it.

They’ve got a bye + Port and Bris.
They lose tomorrow and they are in serious trouble

Really leaves 2 contenders, one of which we’ll measure up against soon.

We should knock over GWS and Haw... a win against Melbourne and we’re pushing 4th. A win against WCE and we’re one of the inform teams

Beat Melbourne on Saturday night and we play finals.

I'm not so sure about the double chance as we need to win every game from here. It will be hard but we might playing West Coast for fourth at the Gabba.

We are more than capable of winning at least one final.

Only a blinkered supreme optimist would tip us against West Coast. They have class and two hard at it key forwards and a skilled engine to pinpoint deliver the pill. Their backline is streets ahead of our forwards in reading the play and aggression. Sadly there a lot of classy but unaccountable players at the Saints

They’ve never been that good on the road and we’re getting better.

Am not saying put all your money on us, but it ain’t Perth either way

P.S - few ppl would ever call me a blinkered supreme optimist

Haven't watched it yet...and a two point loss is gonna be hard to watch if I do.

We don't have a 'finals midfield' do we? Or do we? One that is fit and firing. We have a backline, that can get overwhelmed and overrun, but is still really strong and has integrity. And a forward line that splutters in fits and starts. Our game plan?
Tell me...what do you think. There are experts here who can teach my U15Cs footy brain a trick or two. Or chancers too..anyone...do we have a good game plan?

That would make me feel some sense of where we might be at?

Two inexplicable fadeouts, two beltings and a two really impressive 'reset and carry-on' wins. Unpredictable. What version of Melbourne will we face?

It seems that we could have really been hammered today if not for Brisbane's yips...if they had got on a roll.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Clearly we are a better team than last year
Good enough to play finals
But we are miles off being a premiership contender .
Scoreline flattered us today
Next year could see improvement ( fingers crossed )
But could also see us middle of the table again .
Really need some better ball users
