Re: Delusional Paddy
This is a decision for McCartin - supported by the best of advice including at Club level
Simply, he will be an asset representing St Kilda because of his commitment and his skill set and I for one wish him every success
The heading to this thread is insulting in that it presumes to be all knowing in regard the circumstances of others - but that is the unfortunate trait of the name calling neo Conservative element among us
The response in my view should be to wish Mc Cartin every success in his ambition and endeavours
Full stop
Meanwhile the Markets and now the WHO are passing comment on the lack of fiscal response by government in the face of a health crisis, the commentary of the Australian Market in evidence by it leading the declines and very easily so

Delusional? What f****** rubbish.
I posted that he would be back on a list somewhere next year and was roundly abused.

Re: Delusional Paddy
I remember a robust discussion his prospects... seemed civil to me.
Who abused you?
Edit - I checked the thread... one person thought the post was irresponsible but the matter was settled
‘Roundly abused’!!! Did not see a single abusive comment directed at you. Nor did you cry foul at one. Weird post... sounds very victim seeking to me

Whose list is he on?
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Re: Delusional Paddy
Ah, the cheap ‘cristal ball’ option, you should stick with the name brand ‘crystal ball’
In all seriousness, he can ‘want’ all he likes, no one is going to pick him up, his body is not made to play high level football.

I’m hoping he plays for Sandy. VFL is perfect for him and his long term health.The_Dud wrote: ↑Thu 12 Mar 2020 2:27pmAh, the cheap ‘cristal ball’ option, you should stick with the name brand ‘crystal ball’

Re: Delusional Paddy
As the only Paddy on our current list is Ryder, perhaps put McCartin in the topic line.....

Re: Delusional Paddy McCartin
Can you just imagine if he somehow gets his head right, gets his body up to speed, gets back on the saints list, and actually reaches his number 1 pick potential, even for 100-150 games. (Fairytale sort of stuff, I know)
Just imagine a Max King and Paddy McCartin forward line.

Re: Delusional Paddy McCartin
How would we get him back on list?

Re: Delusional Paddy McCartin
We would be able to sign him as a delisted free agent.
But then again, so would anyone else if they approached him with an offer that he wants more.

Re: Delusional Paddy McCartin
I'm not at all surprised Paddy wants to come back. In fact I would expect it. I'm no medical expert, but I would find it surprising is if his doctors have said he will be OK to continue.

Actually calling him delusional is f****** insulting. Calling him desperate is just nonsense .Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Fri 13 Mar 2020 7:20pm I would say he is also desperate as well as delusional. I feel sorry for the guy.

Re: Delusional Paddy McCartin
DELUSIONAL: beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument.
UMM pretty damn rational arguement to say 8 concussions = find a new career.
Many global sports ban player registration afyer 4-6 in less than 24 months.
I personally would love to see Paddy right and playing...but he wasn't a star. He never had enough game time. He had some good things going and some very average ones as well.
I personally believe he is hoping for something he feels he lost or maybe even was stolen from him...but it just cant ever be again sadly, not at AFL level.
I won't do the work for you unless you really are that daft, look it up. Neuroscientists, neuropsychologists , MTBI specialists....they all say the same thing....
I read a lengthy medical journal article from Dr. Elizabeth M. Pieroth who is a Board Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist and the Associate Director of the NorthShore University HealthSystem Sports Concussion Program (Evanston, Illinois). She has been involved in the assessment of players in the National Hockey League since 1997 and is the Head Injury/Concussion specialist for the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Fire and numerous colleges and high schools across the State of Illinois. She also is on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of Illinois and is a member of the USA Football Heads Up Advisory Committee and the U.S. Soccer Concussion Task Force.
She says if you have migraines, cloudy thinking and fine motor skill dysfunction after repetitive concussion cease all physical risk activity and do not engage in it ever again.
Paddy had all this and more in spades, hell he admitted 3 months after his concussion at times he would look in the mirror and couldn't make out his own face, he had to sit in the shower because he kept falling over, he used a cane to keep his balance...Jesus, what does it take to get him to listen? Death!?
If he played in the NFL he would have been deregistered for life.
I'm just proud to see he has stabilised and think him running and training is a friggin gift.
This is my opinion.
I do know that in the reading I have done, concussion science or MTBI science is very new and emerging. There were many opinions from experts. Some say your brain will heal and others say it won't. The disparity often is between the neueorology pros saying the brain is cooked and the practical pros ( occupational therapists, general doctors, sports doctors) saying recover is definitely possible.
The links between multiple concussion and early onset dementia, Parkinson's and other diseases is growing with new research.
Challenges are that many physical tests are subjective and concussion sufferers are thought to often respond inaccurately, stating preferred outcome not actual symptoms.
Brain scans show significant dysfunction in neurological structures but how that connects to each person's unique ability to function at high levels is very hard to measure.
Is there a chance he could be a rare case and beat the odds? Yes.
Do I see my self as some all knowing Dr Google? No!
I would say I am an elite smart ass. If there were an Olympic event for smartassery, I would be a Michael Phelps. I would go so far to say my wife was right...yep lads, I said it.
She proclaimed I, me, this guy....the biggest Asshole in the Galaxy...not the earth like you amateurs...intergalactic sh!t my friends.
