What was significant about the years 1942 and 1943 for the Saints?

Kenneth Walker won the saints best & fairest in 42 & 43........

or in 1942 the Australian prisoners in Changi organised a competition which consisted of six teams named after VFL clubs. It lasted nine months and was run under similar lines to the VFL. They had clearances, tribunals and their own Brownlow Medal.
Names chosen for the teams were Melbourne, Collingwood, Geelong, St. Kilda, Essendon and Richmond.
For each match the umpires cast votes for the best and fairest player award, which was called the Changi Brownlow Medal. The eventual winner was Peter Chitty, who had played for St. Kilda in the VFL. The medal itself was made in Changi, probably in part from a wrecked aeroplane.
They built a oval and the goal and behind posts were cut from rubber trees........

or those 2 seasons we played at Toorak Park....

Yes Selhurst Saint, back to back premierships for the Seconds

J Gravell was captain of the 1943 Seconds, not too sure about 1942

Given that it's been a day since the last post....
I will post an easy Q for someone to kick off again...

We had the 10 game streak this year which resulted in the points margin being 500 (PF 1263 PA 763).

We had the "10 goal streak" last year during which the points margin was 297 (R18 - R21).

The Q is:

500 points is the best successive winning points margin achieved in H&A matches inc finals. What is the next best achieved (what rounds what year)? and what was the highlight in terms of best winning margin?

My guess would be Carlton in 1995 from round 10 to GF

St Kilda was the last team to beat them in Round 9

score Saints 11.14- 80 to Carlton 3.6 -24

Look that may be right re the Caaaarlton stat but do we care for Caaaarlton?

No the stat is only for the Saints games (sorry for any confusion).

I am turning the computer off soon.

PS We are talking successive points (points for less points against) not games.

It wasn't worded that well when I re-read it. Sorry.

We are looking for the H&A streak (by the Saints) which resulted in the second best points margin (after the 500 point streak in 2004).

It was better than the 297 points scored in the four game streak towards the end of 2003 (known as the 10 goal streak due to all four games being won by more than 10 goals).

The highlight will be evident once the specific games have been identified.

1997's nine game streak was worth 333 points.
R16 we started with Hawthorn (won by 79)
However there were some close results too (Sydney by 9 in R19 and Freo by 13 in R20).

Because I won't be able to check progress until tomorrow I'll give the answer - 383 points (but you still have to identify the games and what the highlight was) - OK?

Another hint - it wasn't in 1966 or 1939 (the Saints 8 game winning streaks).

Was it the streak when Plugger returned from injury in 1991? I think he kicked about 12 & 10 in his first two back as we mauled Adelaide & then Brisneyland.
