Not my first choice but a big improvement on Richo and much preferred to Scott so I'm happy.

Re: Coach to be announced on Friday 30th
Ratten, it seems to me, likes the long bomb into the forward line. I think he was responsible for it as an assistant at the start of the year (correct me if I'm wrong) and as caretaker coach he mentioned a couple of times that we need deep entries, not shallow entries, which means bombing it to 20 rather than spotting up at 40.
He also put the last loss on the players almost entirely. Something Richo would do and received a lot of criticism for. It's good he has identified that skill needs to improve. I just hope he knows how to improve it.

Re: Coach to be announced on Friday 30th
Conspiracy theory time:
Brad Scott is mates with Leathlean and is promised the Saints coaching job.
Uproar among the fans and even the media (Rooey) that Brad Scott will be coach because of that friendship.
Mr Seek says that there will be an exhaustive process to find the next coach
Brett Ratten does okay at the last 6 games as caretaker coach (50% strike rate).
It looks like Ratten will be senior coach (what happened to the exhaustive process)?
Scott sees a senior role slipping away.
Scott's friend Leathlean (who worked at the AFL) pulls a few strings and Scott is now working at the AFL.

Re: Coach to be announced on Friday 30th
Disagree on both fronts. There is a difference between deep entries and long bombs into the forward line. Given the poor conversion rate it's clear it's either really poor kicking or we are taking shots from further out/tighter angles. Given our forwards are actually rated as decent kicks I think it's the later. Further the number of long bombs wes reduced at the start of the year from last year.carn_sainter wrote: ↑Mon 02 Sep 2019 11:43pm Ratten, it seems to me, likes the long bomb into the forward line. Richo only ever focused on the players endeavour and pressure, things he thought they could easily change. Ratten on the other hand took issue with the actual skill level of the players. This is an important destinction and to me shows that there will be limited tolerance for players that try a lot but lack the skill level required to succeed in the AFL. If Ratten continues this messaging then I'd hope players like Newnes, Sinclair etc will focus more on skill execution than strength and conditioning this pre-season.

I think we are in a pretty good position regardless of who they appoint.

Re: Coach to be announced on Friday 30th
If Harvey doesnt get it then thats it for him. He seems like a Richo type. People need to put aside that hes a St Kilda legend. That wont make him a good coach. Forget about the romance. It always ends in divorce.

Of course. Point was that as I understand it, Ratten did nothing to change that and continues to be a fan of it. By no means saying he invented it.
Good post. However, Richo definitely spoke about butchering the ball a lot, which was exactly Ratten's message against Sydney.Jaz wrote: ↑Tue 03 Sep 2019 8:02amDisagree on both fronts.
