Re: Hunter Clark
Keep Clark in for another week at least. Bring Coffield in, and bring Hind and Dunstan in.
Brandon White too, for Jimmy Webster. We've lost the last two weeks, let's see what these guys can do.

Bont walked into the dogs and was a gun from the start. That is not development. They recruited a star from start up.
Billings is progressing as Lenny progressed.
You should not confuse development with your wish for a messiah to walk into the Saints and dominate from the start.

Re: Hunter Clark
Quite an amusing thread and insight into people's thought processes and angst with the club, their development and recruiting. It is the hindsight that gets me. Do we have our usual threads for who people wanted in particular draft years? Billings v Bont, McCartin v ???, Clark v Naughton.
My memory was Naughton was a backman, Clark a potential mid, an easy one for where our club was at & still is.
Regardless, the people knocking Clark and allowing senior players and the coaching staff off the hook from last weekend's debacle is the amusing bit.
Clark, given time and being played in position will be a very good 250 game player.
I'm sure all these people knocking Clark are the same ones who always believed Cripps & Hutchings would be premiership players. Clark & Coffield would be snapped up by top 8 teams if put on the market.
Patience please for 2nd & 3rd year players. The rest deserve the acid put on them. In my opinion.

It was widely acknowledged that our game plan was too complex and Richo was too focused on the negatives rather than the positives.mightysainters wrote: ↑Wed 08 May 2019 8:32amI understand your point but it has been reported multiple times that Richie game plan and philosophy blocked players using their natural talent and were over thinking it.. that’s a big part developmentShaggy wrote: ↑Tue 07 May 2019 12:05amBillings is likely to win our best and fairest this year and is averaging 27 disposals per game in only his 6th season. But we have always generally improved across the list under Richo.

Re: Hunter Clark
Might turn out alright, but could be another case of looking good as a recruit, and not being able to take the next step- footy is full of that outcome. I honestly thought Coff had more upside, so I'm not sure what the club is doing to get him up a level.

I would love to see some senior time put into these 2 kids (Hunter&Coff) I believe it would be well worth it ,consistency of game time breeds confidence in young blokes !

Captain and a bona fide star by then. The Bonts GF game was highly underrated. Had about 22-23 possessions and not one wasted. In a close frantic game he was the calm head that was required. The Norm Smith turned it over about 8 times!!
Billings finding form is not before time. Let’s see if he can do it while the team struggles. The last 2 weeks has shown he can’t

I don't know what the big deal is with him going down a level to find some form. Happens all the time and to be honest it should happen more. Dunstan deserves another shot based in vfl for. Have to reward success

Re: Hunter Clark
OP seems a wee bit extreme. It's only his second year of AFL footy. Sure, he's in a current slump, but just needs to get his confidence back up. Also needs to mature, particularly on a physical level. Still plenty of time for him to redeem himself this year.

Lenny won his first B&F in his 5th year. Stuv in his 6th year. I would not be disappointed with Billings’ progress.
Our problem is not the development of Hunter Clark or Jack Billings but our lack of mature developed players.
Last weekend we only had 3 players who had played 100+ games compared to 8 from GWS.
This week we have 4 players who have played 100+ games compared to 14 players for West Coast.
The posters who criticize the kids and development after we lose simply miss the bigger picture IMO.

Spot on. We really miss some of our outs in regards to senior players. Imo the coach is coaching with one hand tied behind his back.
