Once again apologies for an early crow on this.
I can guarantee everyone here Laverde verbally said he was accepting our offer.
Essendon were playing hardball and he was ready to walk which they assumed he wouldn't.
They have revamped a much more lucrative financial offer to him which he ultimately accepted.
I will be mindful not to post until anything is signed and sealed.

I have a question and please don't take it the wrong way, but is it common for this sort of thing to occur (players verbally agreeing to move). I know things change very quickly but this specific situation with Jayden feels odd.

What do you mean by 'accepting'?jaxons wrote:Once again apologies for an early crow on this.

As in - 'those terms are acceptable to me' OR 'i am intentionally entering a legally binding agreement'.
Bit of a difference legally you see. 'Acceptance' is a legal term in contract law. I think you ought to use the word that he was 'agreeable to the terms of our offer'.

I also heard his busted foot isn't too bad. 2-3 month injury that'll have him back in time for the pre season.

He hasn't told us or GWS yet of his decision just so you know.
But we have put a lot of effort in to get him and we like him a lot.
As I said earlier if he leaves GWS will join us for certain.

What are your thoughts about a suitable price?jaxons wrote:He hasn't told us or GWS yet of his decision just so you know.

If he comes to us we'll have 21,22 and 24 from the 2014 draft on our list.
Two years in the system, 17 games, early second round draft pick, turns 21 in December, in and out of the GIants side.
Will a third rounder get it done or is that optimistic?

Will be pick 46 this year or second rounder next year if a straight swap at this stage.
We still will keep trying for Marchbank and may reach an agreement with GWS for both of them which will obviously change the deal.
Then we will need to get Marchbank to agree to join us.
Identical situation to what Hawthorn did with Essendon regarding Carlisle at the start of last years trade period although Carlisle only wanted to join Saints and couldn't be talked out of it.

Interesting. So even though Marchbank has nominated Carlton the Saints have not given up on the possibility of him wearing RW&B.jaxons wrote:

Would be very nice to snafoo him away from the scumbags from Princes Park. Marchbank and Steele together for player plus pick?????
Do the Giants have an interest in Billy Longer?
Re: Laverde to nominate Saints -Mounting rumours (nowJaxons
Maybe the GWS would but.. He wouldn't want to go there though... And he's contracted... Hopefully he could be convinced like McEvoy
Pick 46 wouldn't even be considered or used by GWS
It'd have to be 10 + Longer for Marchbank and Steele
Which I'd do

Our lack of a second rounder this year limits our flexibility at trade time, unless we want to spend from next year as well. Personally I don't really like this idea of spending future picks, especially on risky deals ...ie...Freeman. It's like buying something on credit without knowing if it's worth it or not.
Longer plus second rounder for two young guys who aren't established seems more reasonable to me. I know Marchbank was pick #6, but Longer was pick 8 and is still young for a ruckman.
Jaxons, do you have any mail on what Carlton will have to give GWS to secure Marchbank?

Re: Laverde to nominate Saints -Mounting rumours (nowJaxons
Carlton have 5 & 23 & 41 this year - I doubt 23 will do it or even 23 & 41 for Marchbank - I would think GWS would want a 1st rounder but 5 is too much - maybe 23 and next year's 2nd rounder might tempt them but if a deal can't be struck then we might be able to step in and sort something and convince Marchbank to change his mind and come to us

In regards to what he'll cost trade wise, pick 46 won't get it done nor will GWS use it in the draft. The father son bidding has moved the goal posts & essentially makes pick 46 (to them) meaningless. A future 2nd is fair for both parties imo. GWS may also want a slight pick upgrade from there too. My mail is GWS are extremely keen on Longer however convincing him to move Sydney is the issue. Longer for Steele or the pick we get for Longer (if traded which I believe happens) is another decent outcome for both parties.
Personally, I would like to see St Kilda be creative at the trade table & trade pick 10, pick 20 (which we get for Longer) & 2017 first rounder for Steele, 2016 picks 7 & 17. Those draft picks would get us two quality kids from this years draft. Add Carlisle, Steele & possibly N Brown or M Brown to our 2017 team & we look to have the quality & depth to take the next step to play finals. 2017 we focus on free agents.

Hey MG have you taken into account that next year's draft class may be better than this years draft - that's the word anyway - next year's 1st rounder might be worth keeping if that's the case
