Savage is not good
Sorry to say
Spencer is absolutely soft and lazy
What has being 19 got to do with being those things
I can't say I remember any of our draftees that have made it, being either of those two things
Do you think the opposite qualities com with age?

Someone like Jack Watts, Jay Schulz or even Tom Hawkins could have been considered those things early in their career. All of them have improved a bit since. Sometimes mental immaturity manifests in physical ways.BigMart wrote:Sorry to say

It also happens as these guys often dominate when playing against other kids...but get found out when they also have to play against men. They either mature both mentally and physically...or they fall by the wayside.bergholt wrote:Someone like Jack Watts, Jay Schulz or even Tom Hawkins could have been considered those things early in their career. One also has to remember that MOST players do not actually make it in the AFL. Lack of application is often a reason...as can be lack of talent. Players like Geary can play many games due to how well they apply themselves.
Some players can apply themselves from Day One...others can take a season or two...and some never.

Re: VFL Rd 6 Sandringham Vs Footscray
I don't know if Savage is going to make it or not.
But looking at him I reckon he's probably struggling a bit with the whole team swap thing. One minute you're playing in Finals for the best team in the League and the next he's part of a rebuilding side bottoming out. Maybe he feels lost. Maybe he thinks his background as a Hawk guarantees his position in our best 22. The whole NZ promo thing of course would only help make you think you're selection is a certainty.
Lost? Confused? Over estimating his ability? No idea.
I think he has a lot to offer but he just needs to stay at Sandy and consistently play well and with enthusiasm and intensity.
And to fully earn any call up.

Those couple of last quarter runs gave some hope. The line breaking was Harves like.

Please don't mention Savage and Harves in the same sentence, post, thread... Especially when making a comparison..

Re: VFL Rd 6 Sandringham Vs Footscray
You are very dismissive BM!
If someone hasnt won a Brownlow by 21 - youd axe them.
You would have axed Tom Hawkins at age 21, Sent Jobe Watson to the knackery and sent Jack Steven to the Hamden League.
But I do agree we have to go on actual form not some imagined fantasy of what Savage 'might be'. When you are a midfielder and 23 and played 63 games - if you are going to be any good - then now is the time to show it. This just might be his full abilities.

I reckon it might take most of this season for Savage to settle in- he's got talent but he didn't come to us as a ready made A Grader who is going to step in and win matches.

No one wants/expect him to be a match winner. But just getting a kick would be a nice to place to start and he did that yesterday so that's a plus.

I actually thought he was pretty good, seems to be copping fair bit criticism which dont quite understand. In team that performed quite atrociously thought he was one our better playersCon Gorozidis wrote:stkildathunda wrote:STATS!

Re: VFL Rd 6 Sandringham Vs Footscray
Did I say someone has to win a Brownlow by 21?
I don't know many who do?!
Getting a kick in the VFL or at least trying to would be a great place to start as a full time football

Re: VFL Rd 6 Sandringham Vs Footscray
I reckon Adam Tomlinson at GWS is worth chasing. Will get lost in the hype around Boyd Patton Cameron.Con Gorozidis wrote:If the biggest question at the St Kilda footy club is who will replace Roo?
Then answer is probably not one of Maister, Lee or White.
We probably need to go back to the drawing board. Yes we will attack the draft but is there another Jay Schulz out there? Much maligned in a sh*t team but who is actually a gun player?

Re: VFL Rd 6 Sandringham Vs Footscray
I have some personal knowledge of Adam. I know he wants to return to Melbourne - but realistically most of the GWS guys are probably saying the same thing and he might change his mind now he is in the side - depends on how long they think they are away from finals as well. Hes a good solid player. I dont see him as a star but hes fairly reliable and can play the game. Big body on him and fit. Id definitely like him at the Saints - but not for a first round pick . Second rounder though. I see him as an inside mid. Reminds me a bit of Lenny (not as good though).Zed wrote:I reckon Adam Tomlinson at GWS is worth chasing. Interesting. Implications is Watters wanted to micro-manage Sandy as well as everyone at the Saints. He is sounding more and more like Kevin Rudd !saintbrat wrote:there is an article in hard copy version of the herald sun which includes comment on the current state of the alignment
