According to the (admittedly dodgy) scoreboard clock that last quarter went about 37 minutes.
Just went on and on and on despite only one blood rule.
Not sure how long the other quarters went as there wasn't "quite the same level of interest", but would be surprised if they went much past 30.

Made for a very nervous last 5 mins !!!!!
First quarter went for forty minutes. 14 goals kicked before the rain came!

Sandringham charge home late

Three late goals has given Sandringham a happy homecoming back to Trevor Barker Beach Oval, recording a hard fought nine point win against Essendon.

After Essendon led by a match high 21 points in the third term, Sandringham kicked the first three goals of the final term -via Seb Ross, Beau Maister and Brodie Murdoch - to draw level.

Cory Dell’Olio kicked his fifth goal nine minutes into the final term to stop the early run by the Zebras. Dell’Olio had been the major scorer early in the game for the Bombers with four first term goals. Kyle Hardingham then kicked his third to give Essendon a buffer of nine points.

Quickly this was erased as Cam Shenton and Arryn Siposs helped the home side back into the lead for the first time since early in the third term, and when a long bomb from an interception by Terry Milera went through, the Zebras led by 9 points and continued their unbeaten start to the year.

Siposs led the scoring and was best for Sandringham with three goals and 20 disposals, along with Ross (32), Milera (24), Trent Dennis Lane, Sam Dunnell and Maister with two each.

Nick O’Brien and Dell’Olio (five goals) led the way for Essendon, along with Josh Mellington (four goals) and Wayne Schultz.

The injury toll for both clubs will be interesting, with Sam Fisher, Tayte Pears and John Rayner all spending time on the sidelines.

All three did not impress that much.

Shaggy, Milera and Dunny have been consistent performers for Sandy this year.

Good to see Siposs have a good game and Spencer competing and getting amongst it.

Saints In VFL: Round 5 - A Comprehensive look at all StKilda players that played in VFL on weekend.

Jason Holmes 5 disposals, 1 tackle
Player Rating: 9

Holmes’ development already is quite staggering for someone that has only been playing the game for a few months. His ruck work is first rate and he was the best ruckman on the ground, even though he came up against the more experienced Tom Bellchambers. When the game was in the balance in the final quarter, Holmes stood up and gave the Zebras first use of the ball.

“He started in the Development at the start of the year and each week he is getting better and better. Playing against a competitive ruckmen in Tom Bellchambers, he competed really well. He got first hands a lot of times and his strength and awareness is improving week by week. He is making some really good decisions with the footy. He is very raw still, but I know the boys are really excited by what he has to offer,” Development Coach Matt Embling said.

view from the Bombers side

Sandringham wrestled a five-point half-time lead thanks to the dominance of Seb Ross and Arryn Siposs, before Essendon held the hosts goal-less in the third quarter to set up a blockbuster finish.

Skipworth said he rated the Zebras as highly as the Borough, Geelong and Box Hill after Sunday’s result.

Few quick pointers from the second half only:

Ross was clean out of the packs and looked a cut above. Running out with a wet ball from some clearances.
Milera was solid with the last goal. It looked like it was from inside the square at least, letting the wet conditions do their work, sliding the winner into an open goal square.
Bruce took some nice marks in the final quarter.
Siposs too some great grabs in the wet, great reach especially with a wet ball.

The four that you mention seem to be playing pretty consistently, maybe Siposs not so much (re consistency) but there comes a time when these guys need to be rewarded with a solid month to gain some confidence in the ones.

I don't understand the selection of Seb and Bruce only to drop them again.

clubs review of the Saints players
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2014-05-0 ... -breakdown

Huddo seems to be fairly open with what each player is giving and expected to work on
Darren Minchington
16 disposals
I thought he had a pretty good game as well. The good thing about Minchy is his intensity and willingness to use his legs out of a stoppage. He just needs to be careful with his hands. He had nine handballs on a day suited to kicking more than handballing.

Dylan Roberton
13 disposals
Robbo will be the first to admit he didn’t have the game he wanted. He did get better as the match progressed and was generally pretty reliable in defence
.
