Pretty simple really...
Selection these days is a two stage process.
Stage 1 : Thursday : A squad of 25 is picked.
Stage 2: 90 minutes prior to the game the playing 22 is picked from the 25, with one name as the sub.
Just no longer think of Thursday as being Team Selection, and you will be a lot less stressed.
It is just the modern way. Everything is quicker and last minute.
