I'd rather see us bring in Sipposs and see how the forward line functions - what structures they use.
Wilkes is the obvious candidate but I'm not sure for the team's development this will take us anywhere (nothing against the bloke just don't see the upside). Kosi is our best tall forward at present and I can't see him being replaced for the next few years other than a different forward structure.
PJ, Watters is playing a different forward structure. For the last few years it has been 'kick it to Roo', with Kosi as 2nd Tall, Milne and Schneider as smalls. Now it is a 3 pronged Tall attack with Milera and Milne in support.
IMO we're best off sticking to this new structure, hence Wilkes comes in for Kosi. I also want to see Siposs play, but I would bring him in for Cripps, who is not showing a lot for mine.
What will be particularly interesting is what will happen when Schneider is fit again.... can he, Milera AND Milne all play? I say no, and both on current form and with an eye to the future would drop Milne over Milera.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Yes I agree and understand re: 3 talls but in the past our inflexibility with forward structure has brought us undone on several occasions not least the GF. What would be of benefit is to be able to adjust or change forward structures to accommadate something like 2 talls and a leading medium forward depending on the opposition.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

1. Siposs isnt playing as a forward in VFL, so he isnt a forward replacement for Kosi. He has been playing on the wing. He's also only kicked 2 goals in 3 matches.
2. No upside in Wilkes? The bloke has kicked 44 goals in 10 matches in WAFL, followed up with 10 in 3 matches in VFL. He brings alot more to table then Kosi does. He has 2nd & 3rd efforts when ball hits ground. Yes Kosi is in form but he is the replacement for Kosi for years to come.
Wilkes will more than likely get the nod no question there, it's more for me about our potential for forward line change up. Sipposs may well be being played more as a wing but like the coach says each player needs more than one position and clearly Sipposs can kick goals. St.Kilda's future lies in attacking capacity IMO. The better teams have multiple goal scorers and at present we appear to have a few that are gun shy in front of goal - our stats for last week show we had it in the forward 50 for a massive amount of time for little return and yes that's because of the lack of finish but that's my whole point.
If Wilkes gets the nod fantastic and I hope he kicks a bag but we need players that can do more than that. You need to be a forward, a midfielder and a defender in one - in other words the complete game. Sipposs IMO is closer to that.

siposs will drag his defender out onto the wings and run him about, but wilkes will predominantly sit in the square and compete one on one. don't think you can compare the two. and can see both coming in this week. siposs was playing for some in defence on sunday so wouldn't be surprised if newnes and or cripps came out and had a spell. time to get ledger in there too who always faces goal and is a direct speedy player. if wilkes doesn't come in I'll eat my hat. he's definitely more a forward than a backman so releived to see them playing him there.

Yes Wilkes has upside alright IMO, there's a few have doubted it before he's had much of a chance - posts have said he struggled at FB - this after playing maybe 10 mins there v WCE !! If Wilkes does get a game, I hope he does really well..........
Don't think he brings more than Koschitzke though - different - can play FB, maybe better at ground play and 2nd efforts, but doubt he can ruck.

You're forgetting the rules.
- Wilkes has been on another AFL club's list
- Wilkes is not under 20 years of age.
Therefore he is a dud, who has no future, who must not be played and who must be delisted at the end of the year.
Bad luck Kosi with the system i thought Kos marked very well on our forward line during the game and not to be taken for granted he converted nicely when the opportunities presented.
Looking fwd. to Kosi's return already!
GO KOSI!
GO SAINTS!
The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
