Baker may play if Gram doesn't come up, otherwise unchanged.
Lyon is trying to play funny buggers.
yep agree
the one area we had a clear advantage was ruck
WHY would you stuff that up.
Both Gardiner and McEvoy go forward and kick goals thats been proven over time, and it means that Jolly and hack fill-in have to play a very defensive mindset after the bounce. Thats is to our advantage.
Is an advantage in the ruck a game winning advantage?
I suspect that's the question...
Against Collingwood, I suspect mobility is the key.
But I know nuthin...
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
Some are getting a little steamed up prematurely. I'm glad we don't shag.

Footage from last year's GF of Baker desperately spoiling a ball through for a point before crashing, shoulder-first, into a goalpost makes me so glad he's in the side.
He'd be prepared to die for the cause.
If we have 21 others who share the same mentality, we won't lose.

Footage of BigMac going back with the flight and taking a big contested mark right on the point post (altho he missed the goal) THIS year against the Cats in the QF makes me sad he's been dropped and our structure has been changed to suit the Pies...
What is wrong with adjusting your structure slightly for the biggest game of the year?
f*** me, this crew has got us to the dance twice in two years and I honestly think they are gonna win this one. You gotta back em in. They know more than anyone on this site.
Happy Bakes gets a chance...He WOULD die for the cause.
Shattered for Mac....He is our future IMO... Shattered for him.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Make no mistake, we've blinked.
Why? Because we've left our options open and won't show our final hand until the big show?
I say Malthouse has blinked. Two spent forces come in who are being asked to perform absolutely critical roles without having played recently. An emergency list that adds nothing but predictability.
Think what you will, but I think you're thinking complete kneejerk tosh.

I think the side we have picked will play. Blake will play as a second ruckman. Huge gamble but maybe RL thinks we need to take a risk afterall the pies have been on fire. Is it worth it. We will know more at 5.30 Saturday. Bakes first up is good as a few knowledgable people have said. Second up would have been impossible after 13 weeks.
I might be wrong here but I'm pretty sure McEvoy was also dropped for our last meeting with Collingwood. He played well up in Brisbane the week before and then got dropped. Correct me if I'm wrong here but appears Lyon just doesn't think Collingwood presents the right match up for McEvoy.
Have checked and McEvoy was dropped for that last game against collingwood. Can anybody remember what we did that day in the ruck? Whatever it was it can't have worked too well as we had our pants pulled down.

did you watch that game?
We had our pants pulled down because Collingwood came to play and we weren't prepared for it.
Once they had a big enough lead we thought "stuff this, let's just go home"
the ruck had no bearing on the result.
One thing about the team that's been announced is it has pumped me up!!! I am so ready to witness some magpie carnage. Watch out!!!!

Shattering for McEvoy, particularly as his second half of the year has been great.
Baker had to come in - he means too much and will give too much on GF day not to be in the side.
Interesting decision but a few observations:
- Blake has spent large periods of time on the bench in the last 2 finals, because he didn't really have a match up. It would have been the same against Collingwood - except now he does have a matchup. Leigh Brown.
- I expect Gardiner to ruck 70% of the match, and Kosi OR Blake to relieve him. The disadvantage is that MG may not push forward quite as much, but the advantage is that we will play a smaller forward line (more mobile) and IMO this will work to our advantage against the Pies.
- We have to be careful of sacrificing a midfielder from the centre square IF Blake is going to tag Brown - despite Blake being able to apply pressure, he will not give us the same ball-winning ability inside. However, the flipside argument is that pushing some of our runners (e.g. Joey, Gram, BJ) out to the wings and flanks may actually assist us in breaking Collingwood's zone.
- We have just broken the structure we've used for 2 years straight. Brave move.
Whatever you say about Lyon, he has balls the size of Malcolm Turnbull's ego.
I agree with the decision and not implying we lost to Collingwood because McEvoy didn't play. Just making an observation. I believe Pattison played in that game as the second ruck. I think people are just reading too much into it all. Lyon doesn't think there is a match up for McEvoy against Collingwood so hasn't selected him.

Make no mistake, we've blinked.
Not sure if we have blinked just yet. Watching MM on GameDay he was genuinely surprised and taken aback i thought.
Was not expecting that and I think that has made him need to think a few things through.
Def think the mind games have begun and I think we just took first points.
