Also -we need to realise that we cant always get the best end of trading period.
Geelong traded C.Gardiner and King for #90 to give them another opportunity and didn't use it. Gardiner lasted a year and King is still going.
We may have done the same thing with X.
May not use the pick - may use it on a recycled player like Nathan Brown or may use it in a deal with Luke Ball somehow.
Whatever - you win some (I tend to think we won with Lovett but thats debatable) you lose some (X for #60 is a loss but he may never recover who knows).
Thus is trade week.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I think we will use pick 60 to take Clouston - recently delisted from the Lions.
so in essence - a straight swap, X for Clouston.
There's a thread on Clouston somewhere around here. Sounds like he has tonnes of potential, is a fine athlete and could play 3rd forward.
Interesting move from RL.
Also, in fairness to X a reckon a fresh start will do him wonders. I just wonder myself whether the St Kilda fitness people think his body is a lost cause.
Really hope Bally finds a trade too. It would be a fair distraction if he were to stay at the Club.

If X was contracted next year then losing X is probably what is allowing us to get the players we need.Enrico_Misso wrote:Pick 60 is an insult for X.
We have effectively given away a first round draft pick for nothing.
X would most likely not have gotten into our 22 anyway.
That X was a first round pick is irrelevant...so was Fiora!!!!

I think the trade was done more out of respect for X than for what we could get for him. He was most likely not going to come into the team of 22 and knowing that, he decided to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Also, his body has not been right (excluding the knee injury) for the better part of his career.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:What a rubbish trade. As well as we did with the Lovett trade, we've done as badly with this one. How is Peake worth pick 48, yet X worth only pick 60?
You would be really pushing to get a higher pick for a player who has been unable to consistently perform at the top level for the better part of 8 years. You need to be realistic. We are not Hawthorn or Collingwood......
Bottom line, he wanted to leave and he was accommodated. Not much more you can do and I am glad he has been given a second chance. Once again, good luck X! You will have many a St Kilda fan cheering you on (except when playing us!).

it's just about squad numbers.
nothing to do with pick 60, but you take it over taking nothing in case it comes in handy to offload Ball.
All the best to X. Love to see him kick on, no matter where. He knew where he sat: behind Ray, Lovett, and probably Peake too, not likely to play a major role with us
