Re: Jaxons come on down
The speculation is interesting - and other than reading the speculation I know nothing.
BUT
In my opinion we need depth - and trading is not there to add depth players.
So in terms of depth we are looking at (for example) Templeton adding plenty of size so he can compete for the pill when his turn comes, not sit out the back as he even does at VFL level. Plus there may be some State League players who have matured to AFL List status.
The upshot of this is, if we look to acquire players from other sides, we go for the pinnacle, a player who will add to our current best 22 and significantly so including by spreading our resources down from the very top.
So not someone who would be selection 15 when putting the names on paper but someone who would be selection 1
If we need to keep our powder dry to obtain such a target, so be it.
We spent on Carlisle and what that cost us in a First Round Draft Pick and remuneration (noting Gresham as a positive) because he is exactly where there is a deficiency, so he is a first pick player.
Freeman is class, and worth investing in on the cost of a second round pick (wherever that falls in the upcoming Draft).

I hope we're having a crack at rocky for pick 10
I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

Is it worth using pick 10 for Rocky?duckduckduckgoose wrote:I hope we're having a crack at rocky for pick 10
It is supposed to be a strong draft and we could get a very good player for pick 10.
One year will be our year

too old for us.
lets grab Steele with odds and ends, e.g. next years 2nd and/or trade out something, and allow Trout to grab a gun youngster at pick 10

Yeah but even a very good player at 10 is going to take years to really be useful.longtimesaint wrote:Is it worth using pick 10 for Rocky?duckduckduckgoose wrote:I hope we're having a crack at rocky for pick 10

Look at a quality kid like billings for instance.
It's unreasonable to expect a kid, even a future A grader like billings to be reliablly consistent within their first few years.
Even a kid like gresh who has started great will likely be up and down for the next few years.
We know we'll get A grade quality from rocky from day 1.
And he's young enough that he should be able to maintain that level for 4-5 years (ie our window) ala joey etc.
Plus rocky is the exact kind of mid we need.

What do you know about a 'Bigger Name Player', we are dealing with at the moment, your office is bigger than mine, so if expect you to know!!!!!
Definitely something big brewing but as I have said the goalposts are constantly moving.
Look no further than the last 48 hours!
Eli and perhaps Lee involved with an exchange of picks

Rocky will only be 28 by the time we are aiming for top 4 in 2018.SuperDuper wrote:I hope we are not...duckduckduckgoose wrote:I hope we're having a crack at rocky for pick 10

Re: Jaxons come on down
Exactly why are we ONLY aiming at top 4 in 2018?
Add Carlisle and Freeman plus further development in our most recent First Round Draft Picks (as expected) and others and I have not ruled out being right in the mix in 2017.

I just would not part with pick 10 for a guy who will start next year as a 27 year old at this stage of our buildduckduckduckgoose wrote:Rocky will only be 28 by the time we are aiming for top 4 in 2018.SuperDuper wrote:I hope we are not...duckduckduckgoose wrote:I hope we're having a crack at rocky for pick 10

You miss 5 of his best years and get 5... so half a career
And you are risking overvaluing the current list... which would be a disaster...

True, Gehrig and Hamill were great for us at the time but lasted only for the first crack. ask Tigers fans what happens when you over-rate your list after finishing 9thWaltzing St Kilda wrote:True, Gehrig and Hamill were great for us at the time but lasted only for the first crack. Sorry DC but I doubt his manager ever said he was going to move but instead that they just said that they were happy with the terms we we put forth - big differencedamienc wrote: I also have no doubt his Manager told St Kilda he was going to move but like all player Manager's he was full of it. Laverde was never leaving the Bombers.
It was a ploy to put pressure on Essendon to match whatever we offered him. It worked. Bugger.
The ball was always in Essendope's court and he was always likely to stay if they matched our offer which it sounds like they have or close enough to

Before someone jumps down my throat, Jaxons was spot on with his early intelligence. I have no doubt. But in the fickle world of trading and offers it can change in a heartbeat.

Re: Jaxons come on down
I understand people are impatient and want instant gratification but it would be insane to trade away pick 10 this year.
Think about it. Once we start playing finals again - then that is it for top 10 draft picks. We might not get one again for years.
We can definitely get Steele without losing or using pick 10. No question there.
So lets just use pick 10 on the best talent in the draft. And then get Steele some other way (e.g Longer).

I don't think any reasonable person would expect to swap pick 10 for Steele.Con Gorozidis wrote:I understand people are impatient and want instant gratification but it would be insane to trade away pick 10 this year.

It could be swapped for two good players, but not just for Steele.
As you say Steele may be gained by trading Longer. Though possibly to a third club for a pick to be on traded for Steele. Or it could be a choice of Longer or Pierce.

adding Steele plus a pick 10 would be a good off-season
Keep next years first as well

Agree 100% with this. Will be pretty p$ssed if we get someone like Rockliff unless it's as a free agent. We need to remain patient
