Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Saints head of football Chris Pelchen said the club was prepared to give up pick 1 to land former top-10 draft picks Jono O’Rourke and Jaksch in a deal similar to the one that saw Dom Tyson traded to Melbourne last year.
he did not say that at all
he said no one has come forward with offers for the pick and they havent gone out and paraded it around
he said that they spoken to rourke and jaksch
id like to see the quote where he said "the club was prepared to give up pick 1 to land former top-10 draft picks Jono O’Rourke and Jaksch"
no prob being wrong but im 99% sure he has not said that at all.

Agree. He's just got his head screwed on. A 17 year old who hires a running coach to improve his midfield engine. He'll be a beauty.matrix wrote:nice articleSemperFidelis wrote:Emma Quayle on Petracca.

Clearly the key question for all of us is whether McCartin can also make a short macchiato ...
ok
ive made my mind up
just take him with pick 1 ffs
we have a vision to 2018 and all that jazz so im sure we will have more picks inside the top ten in the next couple of years so lets grab Petracca now
I just hope we don't pass on a genuine champion because of a desire for more depth. A Boyd / Cameron trade maybe but otherwise it's a massive risk.

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Scenario from BrianSpeaking on bigfooty
"..I have heard this today; O'Rourke or Jaksch Pre season draft, the other one for our second rounder. We keep one for Petracca, that way we get all three, pretty simple really.
We have offered both overs to come home, we have the cap space and you don't.."
When he says you don't have it about cap space, he was referring to a Carlton poster.

We should aim for what BrianSpeaking proposes. We will be laughing all the way to the bank if we get the two GWS players and Petracca. Considering our PSD position, it is very likely to happen. Go Sainters!

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Hawks might be the problem with JOR, if we're hoping to trade him for our 2nd rounder. Hawks might throw up their first rounder, and regardless of the cash we will throw around, the potential for success is pretty inviting.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Scenario from BrianSpeaking on bigfooty

Still, we HAVE to use the pre-season draft opportunity to work for us. This plan would be a beauty if we can pull it off.

I'm pretty happy with the Pet Man.
Only a Cameron or Boyd would be enough to divert our attentions imo.

He did, sort of! His words were "if that deal is formally put to us, we'll consider it, it hasn't at this stage, but that's the type of deal we're looking at."matrix wrote:Saints head of football Chris Pelchen said the club was prepared to give up pick 1 to land former top-10 draft picks Jono O’Rourke and Jaksch in a deal similar to the one that saw Dom Tyson traded to Melbourne last year.

So he has been taken a little out of context. They also state JOR & KJ are both former top 10 picks, but I'm pretty sure KJ was 12.

Now that is the sort of player you can get in the pre season draft. Forget the stars. It just doesn't happen anymore and im not sure it ever really happened. Still don't think we will get both those players though. One at best.

This is the most likely outcome though I rate Brian_Speaking more than the oracle on this board.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Scenario from BrianSpeaking on bigfooty

What is the status of Jack Steven? Is he still a free agent next year?
If so do we look at trading him now rather than risk losing him next year as a free agent?
Free agency is a huge risk to clubs now and any player who doesn't extend contract early must be considered a risk.

If we lose Jack next year (I hope we dont) then I think we can quite comfortably expect a top 5 pick compensation.1966 wrote:What is the status of Jack Steven? Is he still a free agent next year?

It could be very very handy to have two top 5 picks next year. ..a trade for an out of contract key forward would be easier to facilitate.

I wouldn't mind him if we could get for a late pick.saintbrat wrote:Membrey has been linked to the saints

You would think we could get 2 for him under FA. maybe a top 10 pick if traded so not a chance IMO.
Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Potential for success? O'Rourke can't get a game at GWS, how is he going to get a game at Hawthorn? They've got plenty of solid mids not playing in the senior side: Simpkin, Hartung, Woodward, Anderson, Hallahan, Ross. As well as a couple more rookies and kids. He'd have to battle all these guys just to get a senior game, let alone to play finals. Success doesn't feel so great if you're sitting in the stands in a suit.St Chris wrote:Hawks might be the problem with JOR, if we're hoping to trade him for our 2nd rounder. We hold all the cards.
Patience Saintsationalists.
Then, 2015 PSD... we liberate Cameron.
So for season 2016... we have Petracca, Cameron, O'Rourke and Jaksch.
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?

Again Dave saying it all the time doesn't make it true but it does show where you live. How about some facts Dave. When was the last star player to go in the AFL when they were proven stars?
Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion
Saints clearly want overs for the #1 pick, and rightly so, I reckon GWS might get a little greedy and want too much for JOR and KJ so we could well be hanging onto that pick.
At this point in time given recent events I also think it's unlikely GC will do anything rash.
Petracca is looking more and more likely IMO. Provided that is who we want.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

What was the Judd Deal WCE to Carlton? - thats the last marquee player swapping clubs i can remember pre 'the new world order ie: expansion clubs, FA etc...' I know it involved Kennedy i think he was pick 4? and the Blues getting Lachie Henderson from the Lions, but does anyone remember the trade, it was a multi club one from memory...cheers

West Coast ended up with Kennedy, Masten and Notte; Carlton got Judd and Armfield.

Thanks Bergholt! That's right, Lachie henderson was part of the Fev trade, not the Juddy trade
