It's nobody's business... how many people on here would like their private 'exploits' divulged on the front page of the paper?

The school principal should have at least sought to serve the best interests of her student... it's not hard to argue that she did not.

That is 100% right. The principal has a lot of apologising to do IMO.

Surely it is a bit of both isn't it?

The media ran with it to sensationalize it, and made a story out of it even though all the facts were not apparent.

The DHS and the principal should have a duty of care to the student, which clearly has gotten lost somewhere along the way. Whose fault that is will not doubt be revealed at some later stage.

I am not sure how any of us can have a strong opinion on who is right or wrong when we still do not have all of the facts.

Even so, I think it is actually quite sad that this has entered the public domain and is now a gossip topic. This involved peoples lives and it sounds like in all cases they already have enough to deal with.

Seems that "breaking a story" when it comes to footy and sex is all that matters, be it right or wrong, damaging or not. Probably more to do with societies need for gossip than anything else. Ethics in sports media have been deteriorating steadily for quite some time! I think I will read less and just watch the games...

It may be cheap and nasty journalism, but I reckon once it's being officially investigated by police and they get a whiff of it, you have to accept it's fair game for the media to report it as such, without naming names.

From what we are hearing, it seems to me the Principal reported something that didn't happen (which could have been easily verified), and she must've known was a massive 'story'.

Mr Magic wrote:So how does it explain the treatment this story received in the Hun today (double page spread on pgs 4-5) with headlines about St Kilda/Sex and yet still no mention of Collingwood?

If the story has moved on from the tenuous (and completely wrong) link to 'School Clinics' and now centres on a teenage girl being pregnant, why still no mention of a Collingwood player?

Is the Hun stating, by omission, that no other person could possibly be the father of this unborn child?
How do they know that?
They've had no problem in identifying the Club the 2 Saints players are from, even after the tenuous link to an AFL scandal has proven to be false.
Why not the other player(s)?

And why no identification of the School?
Surely one could argue that,
if it's in the 'public interest' to warn of 'predatory AFL players' it's also in the 'public interest' to warn of girls seemingly bent on 'trapping' young men into unwanted fatherhood?
(I'm certainly not advocating this but merely raise it as a debating issue)

In today's age, playing 'russian roulette' with unprotected sex is an issue for both males and females?
Do what I do, don't buy the thing, the 1/2 hour you get back will be put to better use, and you miss no footy info....

Backing this up is the manager of one of the players who hasnt requested an apology from the media but the principal and Ricky Nixon isnt scared to have a go at the media if warranted.

Some people need to get the blinkers off and see who the real villains are here but of course when our club is wronged it is media's fault.
The 'information' you describe was unsubstantiated gossip that could have been substantiated with a few very simple actions on the part of a journo who wasn't blinkered by the simple economics of a media frenzy.

Leaving aside any moral judgments about what constitutes acceptable sexual practice the people wronged are variously the players, the girl, the child to be and the families of all concerned.

Any other viewpoint is plainly mischievous.

I don't care if it was Port Adelaide or North Melbourne or whoever involved. The whole thing was entirely and properly avoidable.

You're simply taking the piss.

IMO.

Surely your the one taking the piss. Victoria police were notified as were a couple of welfare departments. Once that happens it is public news whatever way you look at it. Or do the media wait for guilt or innocence before other people in the public hear about it. If that is the case we should never have heard about AL until charges were laid. This is the real world, not some fantasy land.

I've seen it and I'm not surprized the players thought she was 18+ years old.

I desperately hope not. This girl is underage for God's sake - can't she and the players involved be left to sort in out in private?

was incredible. im pretty sure the word "virgin" does not exist on any legal books outside maybe saudi arabia. im also sure it has NEVER appeared on an australia book.

if the "virgin" rule was in place. it would mean every single person having sex between 16 and 18 would be breaking the law and subject to criminal charges ( so thats a lot of law breakers) . and the law would be saying "thou shalt remain a virgin until the is 18".

clearly ridiculous proposition.

I've always found this view on males v females interesting. If a bloke goes out and beds down 10 birds he's a stud, if a girl does it she's a sl*t. Go figure.

It is interesting that in 30 odd years sine the so called sexual revolution this has not changed, everyone says we have an equal society but yesterday showed that the young woman concerned was demonised.

I was talking to some youth workers today about this and only hope as I said yesterday that young people who read this story learnt something from it. Young people will always have sex it is normal to do so but for goodness sake use protection if you do not want to get pregnant.

That is disgusting I hope if anyone gets it they delete it and do not forward it, this young woman has been thorugh enough.

Pregnancy is not the only issue here.
STDs/AIDS are of equal if not greater concern.

If anybody is sexually active with multiple partners it doesn't make sense to have unprotected sex.
