It’s not so much confidence in Ratten’s ability but rather further reflecting on just how bad his predecessor really was. Don't get me wrong, my fingers are crossed too. But Beveridge was part of the clean air. There seems to be an assumption that Ratten didn't have much input last season. I'm not so sure.

I'm pretty certain Ratts had a simple job specification this season, just get in and build relationships and observe and take notes.

You also wanna play players you'd like to see move on. That's one reason Ratts played him, I'd suggest.
