Winces....seriously hope it’s not Banger.
I loved Robert as much as any supporter. If it is him, I can only hope that they had a good hard look and his ability to coach stood out. If, on the other hand this is to be a 'feels good' situation, I fear for all, club, Banger and us

I would take what Nexus Nick is saying with a quarter of a grain of salt.

Look at the odds - Ratts is still 1.25 on some markets.

I hope Ratten gets it.

Yeah agree, history tells us that it's going to require one hellava Board, a fantastic coach and a well built team to get the job done at the Saints. Something that many teams can get right, but we have only managed (and by 1 single point) in well over a hundred years

I'm sorry if my frustration shows, I aint real confident in us having any of those things any where near ready for 2020

Whately has reported that Brad Scott will work for the AFL next year.

So that’s one Ratten hurdle out of the way!

I wouldn't get too worked up or infer from the delay that Ratten is necessarily not going to be appointed. St Kilda president Andrew Bassat made it very clear when he stated on July 16:

"We will now move aggressively down the path of selecting a new coach. It’s such a critical decision for the club. That we need to be as thorough and thoughtful as we need to be to get the right outcome.

‘‘We need to take as long as we need to to make a decision right, to be honest. It’s all relatively new.’’

As for speculation that it will be Robert Harvey you would think that if this was true the footy media would be all over it, which so far they're not....

"Any candidate for political office, once chosen for leadership, must have the will to take the wheel of a very powerful car, tasked from time to time to make a fast journey down a narrow, precipitous mountain road – and be highly skilled at driving. Otherwise, he is disqualified from the company of competent leaders."

John Carroll, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at La Trobe University.

Hi Sainters,
I have no inside knowledge but I would have thought that If Ratten was selected then it would have already been made public, particularly with the Roughead announcement on the weekend, as he doesn’t have issues of involvement with a team currently in finals.
This delay makes me think it may well be Harves - but with the Pies having a double chance, then if we’re waiting for the team to be out of the finals race before any announcement then it’ll be at least a couple of weeks.
Anyway - just glad that it won’t be Scott, but a little sad it’s not Ratts (if all the rumours/conjectures are correct).
Go Saints!

I think the longer the delay in naming our coach, the less chance it has of going to Ratten. You start to wonder if the delay is due to the new coach still being involved in finals. Personally I hope Ratten gets the gig.

I expect that Ratten will get it, and I don't believe that the timing has much to do with it. What it does mean is that they have had to do alot of due dilligence on Banger.

If Banger doesn't get the job this time (for whatever reason), then it means that he will never get it. You would want to fully understand the magnitude of that in the scheme of things.

All credit to the club tbh, we don't want to rush this simply to keep the members happy

having said that, I want to know NOW!

It would be ludicrous to be tied to having to wait until, say, the Pies are out of the finals if Harvs is the man.

We are not in the finals so are not competitors to them directly.

Imagine if the Filth made the Granny and we had to wait another 3 and a bit weeks? That would bring it too close to the trading season and we can’t afford the uncertainty much longer due to trading negotiations and having appeal to other players - they want to know our coach before committing

The delay might be because key persons are trapped in Hong Kong waiting for flights. China has not be kind to us this year.
